heyy everyone, im doing my hsc this year, not too long to go :worried: , which is a bity scary, but anyway im thinking of doing laboratory techniques at TAFE next year as i wish to do a science degree (biotechnology) at Uni. First thing i was wondering is which TAFE campus is better for lab techniques, i heard granville is good but i really would like to go to ultimo. Granville is much Closer but gettin to Ultimo shouldnt be too bad as its in the city. Second thing is Does anyone know any uni which has a good reputation for science..doesnt really matter any that will accept me is finee but but to know would be good :).. final thing is can i go from my lab techniques course CERT 4 to uni?? ohh and 1 more thing, does anyone know how the lab techniques traineeship works?? in terms of length and experience.. thanx in advanced.. :)

Have you looked at Open Universities' Bachelor of Applied Science in Biotechnology course (degree actually given by RMIT)? There are no entry requirements or quotas, so they can't say no to you. There are residential schools (on-campus bits) a couple of times a year in Melb for a few days but because it is mostly by distance you can hold down a job to pay for the trips to Melbourne (if you don't live near there).

I'm not dissing TAFE, because TAFE is wonderful but there are other options available. I started a Cert III in Lab Operations traineeship through TAFE but ditched it due to workplace issues, the TAFE bit was great... although a lot of the equipment was not calibrated properly and wouldn't work (like the pH meters).

I study Diploma of Pathology at TAFE Ultimo. If you have any specific questions, I can try to answer them. IMO the course is very good.
