There's a guy in my 3U class who does 4U maths (and the only person who does).

My head teacher said to the 4U maths guy,

"because you do maths extension 1 and 2 they are counted as two units each and you can't do more than four units of maths, so your 2 unit results wont be counted"

... so there you have it, even though you can sit for the 2U maths exam, your results for 2U wont be counted ... only your maths ext1 & ext2 will be counted ...

and he created confusion in the recordings of the 2unit maths ranking because he shouldnt even be there but he did.

since youre doing maths ext 2, they automatically assume that youll get 100 for 2 unit, which is why you dont have to sit the exam.
youll only have to do maths ext 1 and maths ext 2 papers.

But therefore you won't actually recieve 100% in 2-unit?

lol yeah ... like the 4U maths guy in our 3U class got his 98% (or 100% after mark scabbing) in 2U maths result (and was supposed to be 1st) ... the maths head teacher made him gtfo the 2u ranking ... so i used to be 8th or 7th in 2U maths, now imma 7th or 6th :)

so kids, the moral of the story is, dont do 4U unless you are a talented mathematician and have proven so with proficient results in a 4U maths assessment (like the 4U maths guy, the one and only in our school, who is faring well in 4U).

You won't get a mark in 2 unit maths. Simple. Extension 1 and 2 maths counts for 2 units each when you do extension 2 maths, no need for a 2 unit mark. And they don't assume you will get 100% in the 2 unit paper either.

maybe i should have reworded what i said.
when you do ext 2, only your ext 1 and ext 2 results count towards your hsc, but however some schools such as mine want students to sit the mathematics assessment tasks in the event of a student dropping down to ext 1.
and yes just because you do ext 2 doesnt guarentee you 100 in maths 2 unit....stupid friend who gave me the wrong info
my apologies if i caused any confusion

i dont get it.. y 4u people wont actually receive 100% for 2U?
if that is so.. it's not fair since i got 100% for 2U in half yearly..

2 unit maths won't even count in the HSC if you do extension 2 maths. Plus not all people who do extension 2 maths can get 100 in the 2 unit maths exam.

what do you mean 200 marks?
when you finish your hsc and done everything, youll get your results and maths ext 1 would be out of 100, and your maths ext 2 mark out of 100

Because i can be hopeless at maths, fail 3 and 4-unit. And do 12 units, doing well in all my other subjects, and getting 100% for 2-unit for doing nothing.

Unfair. Thats why you won't recieve 100% for 2U if you do 4U. They simply assume that if you do 4u, then you already get 100% for 2U because otherwise you're going to fail. Miserably.

They don't assume you get 100 for 2u, they only assume you will get a band 6 if you do MX2, but that's not even the case mostly. If you do MX2, there is no existence of a 2u mark full stop

No they do assume, it just doesn't affect anything.

My 2/3/4U maths teacher (who is the head of the maths dept) said to me that you get what's called a "nomial band 6". But it doesn't matter because its all irrelevant in the end.

you head teacher is wrong. if you do 4U then you simply don't sit the 2U exam and don't get a 2U mark. No estimation for 2U can be made and is not made. Just becuse you do 4U doesn't mean you will do well in 2U. it could be that a 4U student, if they did the 2U paper could get zero.
