is learning urself hard? coz i was planning to go tutoring for all subjects in y12 if i do the asian 5 (if i don’t then i won’t go tutor for all, only the maths, eng, and sciences) but my dad said it’s hella expensive also cos my sister is in the year below me so there’s gonna be a point where he’s paying a shit ton in one year

no it’s absolutely not. with edrolo (usually provided by ur school) and youtube, you can access really high quality videos for all the asian 5 subjects and so you can easily learn all the content, and then in terms of questions there are tons of resources available here, on thsc, on acehsc and if you ask the right people you can even get tutoring questions. in my opinion, for trials and the hsc you can achieve results just as easily with or without tutoring as long as you have a good English teacher.

That being said, for in class tasks (especially in English) tutoring does definitely give you a big advantage, which may be important for a school like yours. At least at my school, there are a bunch of kids who get mountains of feedback for every take home English assessment and ace all of them and then don’t do anywhere near as well in in class assessments such as the trials and hsc, and although this does kinda suck (p2w lol), it is worth considering because it does give you an advantage.

having a tutor doesnt gaurantee u a high atar. they may help u with techniques n whatnot, but in the end its all up to u.
a tutor doesn't make u 'get motivation,' nor do they make u 'study better.'

ngl. I wouldn't have found my passion for math without Du. But I kinda get ur point.

realistically speaking MOST (not all) people who are aiming for a 95+ atar does at least one tutoring lmao - especially when they come from a rural background that don't provide the best resources/teachers that equals their expectation, so i dont think its fair to say its "just very stupid".

yes, learning yourself is hard if you are not willing to go around friends and teachers for problems you dont understand. Not just for maths, but for other subjects too. Of course, some subjects are easier to get tutoring for, i.e. maths, but going to tutoring doesn't always mean results. You have to dedicate hard work too...

If your learning is inclined that way, large provider tutoring will get you good marks.
Whether or not you have any fun at all doing it is a different story.

However, you 100% do not need tutoring to get good marks. Very good study habits, keeping up with your schools pace of content, and looking beyond the basic-level understanding (if you go to a less well resources school) also gets you good marks.

If you are a student who is able to find the own flaws in their understanding, your time is probably better spent working on the things you know you have trouble with and developing a deeper level of understanding rather than going through the forced process used in large provider tutoring, where you are going to go over & have to do homework on things that you already understand.

If you are somewhat high performing but find it hard to know where to improve, and your teachers will not/cannot show you how, private tutoring may be a good option for you, because they will be able to do what I said in the previous paragraph for you (and (hopefully!) wont spend time on useless things you already have a strong grasp of).

Given that most of your friends are aiming for 97+, I assume you are at a reasonably well resourced school that is probably also high ranking. You likely really don't need tutoring for all your subjects to achieve your atar goal.

Mate. Goals honestly should not be a thing. Aim for as high as you can. If your parents are worried, you'll have to invest in a cheaper alternative to Matrix because their prices are actually insane.

there are cheaper options that moderate much more than what matrix does currently. this is discipline. Without it, you'll become lazy. laziness =/ 90+ atar.
