Hey! So I currently do a bachelor of science majoring in psychological science, just got out of clinical science at macquarie university and I’m a first year. Did 5 units and it destroyed my WAM completely, (remained a credit). But I realised after that semester that I wanted to do something more research based, however I want my career to align with medicine at the end of the day. I currently do 2 neuroscience subjects, and honestly find it so fascinating. The degree was fun, just wasn’t as I expected I guess. It was hard work, but I felt like I was behind, didn’t really want to indulge in medicine so quick, that I felt kind of uncomfortable. I wanted to explore my options too, and I’m just an average student at the end of the day, so I don’t really know how to come by these things. ButI hope to do something around that area of NeuroScience. With that in mind, the neuroscience at MQ isn’t as strong in comparison to usyd or UNSW, i currently hold a 66 WAM, which I know isn’t the best, but I never did any sciences and hopping onto the train of physics, chemistry, was fun, but absolutely mental health ruining. My grades disappointed me. I am able to go into USYD and UNSW with my atar for a bachelor of science (I think don’t fully remember it), but I want to mix it up with some IT. Don’t know who to talk to so I’m residing here. If you can help me please do! This might be a reach… but maybe I can do it? :)

Aiming to do a very specialised and difficult degree (med with focus on neuroscience) but you want to go into science with a bit of IT? Are you sure?
Going into allied health and pivoting to med later would be a better option imo

I think to some extent yeah, I’m pretty sure. I’ve had interest in doing neuroscience for a while, in my opinion, just because it’s hard doesn’t mean I can try do my best right ? 😅 Honestly, i’m still in a rabbit hole. Doing clinical science which was med focused, was enjoyable at first, but I started seeing downsides to the degree and talking to a careers advisor. Wasn’t the best plan for me. Science is something I’ve just reignited a passion for. But by allied health, what would you recommend? Personally, I don’t really enjoy psychology if that were to be an option but it is bearable. However, I’m interested in doing some research before doing med school, still an indecisive person really….

at usyd you could do a bsc with a major in whatever medical thing and a second major in smth IT, or just IT related electives

I'm doing engineering so I can't really speak for any of the allied health degrees but generally speaking, if you want to do med, that's 10+ years of studying and dedicating your time to IT seems a bit odd since it wouldn't really align with a med career?

The thing is, IT really pairs good with neuroscience/cognitive science (something i’m interested in) so having a major in IT or a double degree kind of works out. There’s an extent to computing involved between the two hence why! But yeah, and it’s also like a plan B resort in a way as well if that makes sense :)

OMG lowkey it’s my favourite subject haha! We have spot tests each week, it’s nerve wracking but it’s fun! I think the easiest way to study in my opinion is flash cards, I use anki, creating notes are super time consuming, and it basically sounds like i’m just typing the lecture, so instead i write notes while watching my lectures and make my notes onto anki instead. Helps smmm for anatomy spot tests use purpose games! It’s fun and challenging there’s different type, i’ve got a spot test on monday so i’ve just been doing brain stem, spinal cord basal ganglia all that jazz but its fun lmaooo
