How exactly do these work? I.e. if the question was factories 2x^2 + 5x - 12
and you read it as -5x and wrote on the writing book 2x^2 - 5x - 12 and then factorized it correctly, (2x + 3)(x - 4) , would you get the full 2 marks?

for a 2 mark question.. they would penalise you the 1 mark for the transcription error.. but then if your working was correct for what you copied.. you'll get 1 out of 2 marks.

Provided your working was excellent and that the transcription error could be clearly seen, you'd get the full marks. If you just wrote down the answer (2x + 3)(x - 4) you get no marks. As they used to put on the front of every exam, marks may not be awarded for careless or badly arranged work.
