Even though I'm not an Aussie, I feel totally disgusted and offended by the American arrogance and their general comments on Australian medical schools. They seem to think that the USA is the centre of the universe while it isn't, claiming that the MBBS is sub-standard while their funny MD (American version of MBBS) is golden. They seem to think that any med school in the US, even the worst one, is better than the best medical schools in Australia or elsewhere. That's just absurd. I'm not sure if you guys are aware of the following 2 forums, whose members are primarily American students:

ValueMD:
http://www.valuemd.com/forum30.html

SDN:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/forumdisplay.php?f=88

Be warned though; some of the members there are morons and are thoroughly disgusting and they put shame to human beings.

they are set in their ways... why bother starting a fight?

technically... their other medical degree the D.O is not recognised in australia..

well that's america for you, like point said, it's expected
It's nice to know that they're trying out to come to Oz and they have to goto the trouble of bitching about aussie med schools, they're just insecure and have to do their usual penis length competition.

i tend to agree with the views expressed there...australian medical education is not highly regarded internationally, though granted...it used to be good...

i mean, its good to have increasing emphasis on social justice and awareness across the board and all, but in this politically correct day and age its going way way overboard.

this is coming straight from the horses mouth...you'll see Cziffra :)

you sure? the prevailing views expressed there are that:

1)the worst American medical school is still superior to the best medical schools in other countries including the UK, Australia, and Canada.

2)australian med schools don't teach basic science and students just fool around during clinical years and eventually graduate, not being ready to hit the wards

you sure you tend to agree with these views? i think it's time for the Americans to wake up.

I think if an American student wants to attend univeristy here and then go back to the US for internship/residency, then they probably will be lacking in basic science knowledge compared to those who did their med education in the US. But in Australia we catch up to the Americans in our longer specialist training, so it evens out eventually.

haha yeah, it's all about interview training these days :p

but basically what I was trying to say (like others) is that you can't really compare the two systems until you have completed all of your training. You end up the same, just get there in a different way.

Relax, the American equivalent of Year 12 science and maths is the same as our Year 9-10 science and maths.

And of course they're arrogant, they're American.

I have today been posting on this American forum. They refuse to believe that I'm a 3rd year arts/law student at USyd and are calling me a liar. Bloody yanks.

They are sooooo arrogant to boot. From the people whose SATs dont even have calculus!

Argh! It is so angry-making!

That kind of attitude is just as bad as the arrogance you are criticizing.
