Pedro Aldomovar made a great deal of movies in the 80s I think.

That's true, he had that Pepi, Lucy, Bom film, which was sort of famous.

But his first huge hit was All about my Mother, and that was released in 1999. Therefore I feel like he belongs in the list.

Bryan Singer has made crap since The Usual Suspects, Darabont has made crap since The Shawshank Redemption (Not a big fan of The Green Mile, or X-men movies).. but I guess Shawshank by itself warrants him a place. Peter Weir will be removed.

and i really don't think 'sir' ridley scott can be counted. what with alien being 1979 and bladerunner 1982. if you've been around long enough to be knighted you can't be considered recent

I'd say Tim Burton has made his reputation on movies made in the 90s. Beetlejuice and Batman were 88 and 89, which is close enough to the 90s.

Richard Kelly has only made Donnie Darko, but I added him because I thought he might be quite well recognised for it. I guess not.

actually, you did say 'first major movie' so i think Frank Darabont's first major movie is the shawshank redemption, since his 2 movies prior to it, i have never heard of..

and as for Bryan Singer, same thing, the 2 movies he made before TUS, i've never heard of.. so i'm guessing TUS is his first major movie ?

No, I'm ruling out Bryan Singer purely because he hasn't really done enough to qualify considering all the other directors that have done more. I guess I should really get rid of Richard Kelly to be consistent though.

A few rules.

1. No Dead Guys. No Kubrick, No Hitchcock, No Kurosawa, No Renoir, etc.
2. The list should be composed of directors whose first major films released in the 90s or later, so nobody who was making movies in the 70s or 80s either. So, no Lynch, no Gilliam, no scorcese, no Spielberg.
3. Despite rule number 2, you may include directors who released a few minor films or shorts in the 80s, but whose main body of work is in the 90s, such as Peter Jackson or Joel Coen.

My absolute FAVOURITE director is, without a doubt, Lars Von Trier!!! I cannot even express how wonderful I think he is!!
