@jane1820 ik you're probs sick of me and ive like responded so many times, and im not here to talk abt the schools thing but when i read your messages on this thread i get the impression that you think you aren't good enough to do well in the hsc on your own and you need a high performing cohort to help prop you up or smth. if thats true hear me out

if its the fact that you don't think you are going to do well no matter the school that is worrying you, you're most likely to be wrong unless you have already decided ahead of time you dont mean to work hard in y11 and y12 at all, which i think you haven't. this is because everyone works harder in y11 and y12 and at some point even the ppl you think are like bottom of the barrel make a comeback if they decide to start putting in the work.

you cannot tell in y10 how you are going to do in the hsc lol you don't have a crystal ball, you don't know if it is achievable to rank higher or not bc y10 marks dont mean anything in terms of your hsc. whether or not you improve your rank is really in your hands and its important to stay accountable because ppl in top 100 schools start blaming their cohorts performance/school ranking for their poor marks just like ppl in schools that rank worse than that, believe me or not. and at the end of the day its pointless worrying about the effect other people/your school has on your hsc performance bc it is out of your control and you just have to maximise your own performance.

moving to a higher ranked school with a fixed mindset of "im average at my old school, im going to be bottom of the grade in this school" will not help you and even if you go there i don't understand why you would want to settle for being bottom of the cohort, why not try your best to do better? if you stay there is still a probability of you being top 5-10 in your school and if not there is a chance to do well at your new school too. why would you limit yourself to being average?

I do want to work harder in senior yrs but i just think as much as i try i wont be able to make it top 5-10 (just like now, spent so much studying for yearlies n i got 1 80%+, 1 90%+, 1 60%+ and the rest 70%+) if a lot of effort for YEAR 10 work at a bottom 200 school didnt get me at least 3 85%+ then that just says something? not calling myself stupid just saying i strongly believe im just not ‘naturally’ capable if ykwim

also im saying bottom at a top school so i can stay realistic to myself like seriously couldnt make it top in my current school what makes it possible ill be top at a top school? Also my subjects next yr are: adv eng, ext math, adv math, chem, physics, bio n eco (i wanna change bio, eco n physics bc i hate all them but for now thats what i have) n i dont think ill be able to balance everything while staying top, its gonna be either top at max 2 subjects or balance everything n get max 3 B’s (no A’s - i just know)

i don't know how to help you bc you've already made up your mind on what you can achieve and you don't believe in your ability to make a comeback and i've made the realisation that i can't believe in it for you. good luck girl ill be here if you need advice on any of the subjects we do in common, all the best for y11!

Thank u, honestly u’re like my friend (we met at my old school (2021-2023) but we both moved schools - she went to a different school tho) n she told me the exact thing she said something that gives the same message “honestly i dont think u should move, just work rlly hard bc ive never seen u this happy since u moved, but then again ill support ur choice”

i hope to work rlly hard on myself but in terms of my goals, i have one goal for all my subject: dont get below 80-75%
So ranks arnt on my goal list bc i dont want to put hopes too high ill end up breaking down so im keeping it realistic, if next yr i feel like im doing well ill set ranks as a goal
