There is no such an undorable course if they were designed for someone to do! So be confident with urself~ If u cant do it, no one else will...
I am a second year actuarial student.... So far, I found the course was not as hard as I expected before I got in.. but the good thing is, u will definitely meet a lot of smart and responsible students here, and make good friends with them is the wisest thing u may have done in ur life... u share the thoughts from each other, and learn from each other....
In talking about the hardest subjects in Part I, personally I think they are the following:
1st Year:
ACST 151 Introduction to Actuarial Study (this subject is not hard to get a good grade, but there is a lot of ideas are worthy to think over, it basically tell u most of the staff u will see in the next two years, many of those methods have deep theory behind, so I strongly reckon try to understand everything in ACST 151, it can be very helpful in the future course)
STAT 171 Statistical Data Analysis (To put more effort into this subject, may help u in the second year Stat. Cos they all closely linked... )
ACST 211 Combanatorial Probability (This subject is very very interesting! Please enjoy it~..)
Math 133 Mathematics 1B (Do as much exercise as u can, it is the only pure maths subject u will have to learn throughout the whole degree! Worthy to put on more efforts, it may help u through the rest of the course)
2nd Year:
Stat 272 Probability (if u have Professor Barry Quinn as ur lecturer, is the most lucky thing u may have in ur life!! He do encourage u to understand the content of the course, rather than doing a robot job. There are too many theories involved in this sub, even the smartest student will have trouble to understand the whole course. That is simply because our maths skill is just too poor in contrast to a Pure Mathematician~.. But to get a nice grade isnt too hard. many of those theories are out the scope of the course, but it is worthy to give a go by urself)
I havnt start my second semester, but I was told the third year is very hard as well! but the cutting rate isnt as high as the second year~
Anyway, be good luck.........
