Say I'm doing sodium carbonate - nitric acid titration.

The volumetric flask contains distilled water + sodium carbonate --> primary standard

1) What goes in the burette?
2) What goes in the pipette?
3) What goes in the conical flask?

Since sodium carbonate is the primary standard (i.e. accurately known concentration), this will go in to the burette as this is what you're feeding in to the conical flask.

In the pipette, you should be measuring a known volume (generally 25mL) of the analyte (the nitric acid).

The analyte goes in to the conical flask.
