Grrrrrrr. Am I the only one out there who thinks that the food tech paper totally sucked? Not only was it mind-numbingly boring, but there were some really random/picky/designed-to-catch-you-out questions (e.g. the whole comparison between modified and non-nutrient foods). And what the hell was with that whole food product development essay that was worth 1/5 of all the marks? Nope. Totally crap test. Very, very unimpressed.
I didn't like it much either the whole drivers section sucked though luckily luck was on my side and I just made up something to put down and Thank God it looks like I was right.

Hey what you guys put for that legilslation requirements for labeling? I put like nutrition panel, weight, etc... but i had to make an "educated guess" as to what to put for the things that can appear on a label but wasnt a legislation requirement... I put for the non-legislation requirements such as ways u can use product with other products (eg yakult can be put in milk), links for info on nutrition (eg websites) cooking exampls (eg recipes including that product)... Is that about right??

Also things like the healthy heart tick of approval, product of australia logo, picture of the food, company logo, things like that arent legislated either

I got 2 different to yours... I had 8 as C (based entirely on the fact that emulsification involveds fats and oils...nothing more...mental blank on that one, so im probably wrong) and 5 as B, because a SWOT is the stregnths weaknesses opportunites and threats and is done initially to develop ideas rather than determine sucess...

I thought the exam was great. Was quite happy with it...agreed that the drivers section was a little tough, basically because what product is designed with 3 drivers in mind...I did Wonderwhite, for market concern for consumer health and desire for convenience foods that are value for money...but i was kinda stuck after that...ended up trying to justify it for specialised applications...but left the military/space missions thing off and wrote bout benefits for the family.
UMMMM LOVED the Food Product Development Essay...wrote 2 full books for it. I'd done the business studies exam that morning, so i had marketing on the brain., went deep into the steps (designn brief, idea geeration, market research, product specifications, feasability study, development of produtction processes, development of protype n testing prototype) in a heap of depth, and the marketing strategy was really good to...im expecting at least an 18/20 for that section...
I did Marketplace for my option and was quite happy with the extended response...I did Q20. Um, looking at maybe a 14...thats what i got in the trial, and i think this was a little better than what i wrote then..managed to get a lot more facts down on paper. wrote another 2 books for that!
What I didnt like about the paper was all the identify questions..i found it kinda boring...and it didnt give you much chance to show the examiner what you knew... particually the AFI sector.
I also thought it was based way to much on social implications...i seemed to be repeating some points on a couple of the different questions..
but other than that I was really happy. Like I said, the only doubts I really had were in the 3rd section of the drivers part of FPD.
Anyway, im off to read the other forums.
I think im actually gonna miss food tech...i find the subject really interesting and my teacher is the best. she was the only one of our teachers so far who's come down to wish us good luck.
*smiles*
sweet dreams all,
Nikki

I dunno i have to disagree jus so i can get 10/10 lol i thought SWOT analysis thingos allowed a business to 'identify any challenges in launching a new product, the kind of competition , and a realistic market share to be gained. Thus a SWOT analysis helps a company to plan for the future.' To me that sounds like C instead of B, but you could be right i dunno. And 8 is B cos antioxidants help to prevent rancidity, or deterioration, in fats and oils type products, emulsifiers just allow them to bind i think.

as for the swot...who knows...i can see what you mean by it, but i can still see my own point...i bet that im wrong tho :p
