Hey guys, I'm new here so please bare with me.

Well, I'm seriously thinking of changing schools. My school is ranked in the 300's and is probably the most publicised school in NSW so I won't mention it (lol).

My school is like a breeding ground for newly arrived people from overseas. It's getting to the point where it's starting to get annoying. Here is one situation from last week, my commerce teacher took ten minutes to explain how to add 10,000 + 1,000.

So, my question to you is, Is entering a selective school in grade nine difficult or can you guys recommend any schools to me in the south-west Sydney region?

im going to take a stab at evans high school! or parramatta high

but indeedy try to get into any decent selective school
its not actually hard, apply for next year before the massive influx for senior school

lol changing schools into yr 10 from yr 9 or w/e isnt a bad transition apparently. its only harder if ur transitioning into senior levels.

its what we do when bored people are on BoS! LOL (we need lives.)

academics is the MAIN thing, if your grades are well up and for a school in the 300s, top 5 ranks for most subjects shouldnt be a large feat

community service, sports, extracurricular activities are all nice on the application, itll increase your chances of getting in

put down all the certificates and awards youve gotten

and your hobbies and interests

is your school near livo area then?

of course it is a good sign
but the kid may worry/burn out etc. he is in year nine now. imagine SC year.

and then imagine the senior years, seriously. i'm just sayin', enjoy it while he can because bub-bye to freedom/no homework etc etc once you hit year eleven...

If you want to, change schools. I'm surprised at a school in the 300's (which is a pretty okay rank) people in Yr 9 didn't know basic addition! How on earth do people who can't add in Yr 9 do alright in the HSC?!?

I think some people place too much emphasis on school rank. My school rank isn't super high (It's normally around 200th-215th) and if quite a few people in my school can get 95 + ATARs I figure it's not a big issue.

Anyway I hope you work out what's best for your education. And stress less, yr 9 and 10 are easy years (seriously look at a past SC, bet you could do quite well on it and you're not in Yr 10 yet)

In pre school nobody cared about doing work because nobody told us it was important. At selective schools, you're constantly told how important the HSC is. People are self righteous enough to buy it (because of the sense of self achievement in attending a selective school). At non selective schools, people are realistic about the importance of the HSC. People have more fun, they realize that healthy social relationships and good times and experiences trump the shit eating NSW curriculum any day. Truth is, you could start a uni degree with the school cert, its just that people feel good about themselves if they do more work for something, do what they were told to do. As a result, selective schools are full of arrogant (the subconscious type, not the self activated arrogance that is necessary in many social situations), deluded tools. But that doesn't bother me- they're the ones with the diminished quality of life. No matter how much they argue that their "bright future" (aka. 9-5 jobs that a computer could do faster, but it would cost more to make a computer than to just pay you your shitty wages, crushing your spirit day after day as you're driven by the delusion that you're living a good life, created by what your teachers told you in high school) is better than not having fun at school, they all know or will soon realize how shitty and fucked up society really is.

Because the HSC doesn't (and shouldn't) determine how successful you're going to be, both in terms of how much you're paid and weather you'll end up doing something you'll enjoy.

It's possible to do that, yes. But 3 hours of social life on a Saturday night versus the 15 hours of study you think you need to do is far from healthy. Oh wait, mum and dad said that it is healthy. sorry, i'm clearly wrong.

This reply is the equivalent of me interpreting the above above section literally. You can't get in with a school certificate, but you could do (could as in would have the ability to complete, not could as in would be able to get into it with a school certificate fuckihateexplaingeasilyinterpratedshittofuckingretards) the course with a school certificate and like a 2 month bridging course as opposed to 2 years of pure bullshit.

A 99 ATAR won't get you the charisma to run a company or change our perceptions with scientific thinking. That shit's gained through real experience and just being that kind of person. Nor will it get you the ability to act under pressure and make good decisions, act with reasoning and decisiveness. It will, however, prepare you for a fruitless and mundane workload that doesn't contribute to actually improving us as humans.

I've been to both co-ed and all boys schools. Its not hard to see the difference in quality of person that comes out of either. Co-ed makes real people. Same sex makes douschebags or socially inept failures.

Do you even go to a selective school?

I've attended selective, non selective and international schools. (not asian, just lived overseas for a bit). There is a very high chance that my experience with different people exceeds yours incomparably.
