Yeah, I'm thinking it's a bad idea... haha, it got me thinking. But if I was just there with him, would it matter (legally)? Technically, I am not actually buying the alcohol, I would just be using my card to discount it... I wouldn't actually be paying for it.

Whenever I check people for ID for cigarettes, I never look at their name, even if they're using a discount card.
I do remember a few years ago, one of my co-workers (who at the time was under 18) let her mum have her discount card, and she often used it to buy cigarettes from me with nothing happening. I guess they'd probably take sale of alcohol more seriously in a dedicated place (with processes of checking and analysing).

Thanks for your reply :D i think it is too much of a risk. BWS has cheaper booze than anywhere else here anyways, with or without a discount card :)
I work in liquor so I have to deal with this every so often. If you were in shopping with your mate and they are 18 and you are 17 then sorry they don't count as a responsible person to cover you being in the liquor store so I would refuse service to you both and ask you to leave. I have had people argue with me in the past but the legislation states that a responsible person is someone with parent like authority and/or control over the minor. So in this case I wouldn't accept your discount card because nobody is getting sold anything.

If however you were in shopping with a responsible adult (parent or an older relative, etc.) then I would accept your discount card to be used. I don't see how the fact that its liquor makes any difference. if you happened to be doing the weekly shopping with your mother and scanned it through nobody would care or have an issue. To my knowledge the RSA only prevents liquor being sold to minors, it doesn't specify that minors aren't allowed to reduce the price of liquor purchased by adults by 5% and more specific it actually has an exemption stating that parents (or persons with the authority of the parent) can purchase alcohol in off-license venues to be consumed off premises for minors.

And at the uniform thing it really confused me when i came into work the other day and got let in by the store manager. i thought i'd missed a dressup day or something.

Hey you do still exist!! :p and congratulations!! haha what's it like?
Not to different really, I already did all the reports, contracts, rosters etc etc and gone from one of Sydney's busiest stores to a relatively quiet 700,000 a week Central Coast store. So I'm managing okay, but man did people suck up to me when I started. I notice this very well haha

Ahh okay, I went in with my mum one day and they didn't care too much, and they didn't even ask for ID when I gave them my discount card (even though they couldn't scan it and we forgot about it) so I am thinking I could easily just give it to my mate and he'll be right, but I dunno, too much of a risk I think... I didn't even think we have the authority to confiscate cards like that at all, even in a supermarket as a humble cashier?! :S But thanks for your help too :)

Nice! Sucking up to you for supervisor promotions or something? Our store makes like anywhere between 150,000-250,000 a week :p we're generally pretty quiet.

I would do that too, but my mum has her own discount card, so she no need mine :)

Umm we do. We are instructged to confiscate improperly used SDC's, hence why they constantly want us to check ID's and etc.

I never check ID's for discount cards unless the sale was expensive. Since I wok at big w I only check of it's above $100 or so.

No point for at $30 item.

Got our new phone system installed today. It was very entertaining to say the least! So many people accidentally hung up on etc. haha

Anyone else have the new rule where no one is in self serve for the first hour, and the last two hrs of trade?.

I haven't heard that rule, but it happens half the time anyway.

Also the managers in shirts and tie is brilliant.

Wow really? Geez, I never EVER get asked for I.D when I go to other stores, and I, nor anyone in our store ask others for I.D. Two years ago I went with my family on a holiday down to Falls Creek, Victoria (we drove down from Queensland, stopping at many different towns along the way) and of course I whored around every Woolies stores that I could, checking out the awesome liquor and whatever, and still NEVER got asked for I.D. Thinking back, I think I gave my mum my discount card when she went into liquor in a NSW store when she didn't have her own card.

Also, I heard some details about this "big change" that's coming next month. I still don't fully understand why it will be such a big deal though (maybe I'll understand when I actually find out some complete information)... I am not saying anything I heard on this public forum, sorry :(

Yep we have that rule now. Our regional manager (region 8) bought that one in. He also got rid of 2 o'clock face up. We don't face our stores anymore. Thy look like shit haha

When we got the phones few months ago I would hang up on people when trying to transfer. Old phones are so much better, these ones just look fancier lol

It's not no one in self serve it's the customer service manager or supervisor on duty that looks after it as we do our many jobs of the morning/night

Saw an Earlier Post regarding the relaunch happening for all stores. Has anyone heard anything from their Store Managers's/Team as to what is happening?? Have been told by my SSO that all ticketing in our store has to be Store Opening quality.. Sounds like something big is going down?

Theres is a huge relaunch happening soon.
I sat in the Natcom meeting today, Region 7 & 8 had a meeting on wednesday with eighty-something store managers, regional specialists, area managers, etc.
Its pretty big, Woolworths are putting a heap of money into the media to advertise it, there are changes in all departments, apparently another new uniform, new hats, managers & 2IC's are expected to rotate and work past 6pm, Blah blah blah.
Theres alot!

And i hate the new phone system :/
Its nice that there's a speed-dial option to dial 'the service desk' and other stores.
Instead of having to go use a phone that can call out.

Thanks for the info on the relaunch. Could people please post uniform pics as soon as anyone finds them/finds out.
Also, on the older phones, you could always call other stores by pressing "Speed" and then the store number. Our service desk phone was completely barred from calling any numbers except speed dial numbers.

EDIT: Also, how stupid was it to just release unisex vest and ladies cardigans if the uniform is being relaunched?

My store was getting the wiring done the other night for the rollout which i imagine will happen soon. Most likely before we go live for homeshop as the increased RF gun reliability will be needed.

I also like the speed dial thing but i don't like how its been implemented. We had speed dial setup at my store for ages and simply used the stores 4 digit store code as the speed dial number, this made dialing stores in our area super easy. with evolution they should use 3 digit codes for all the services like the service desk, regional managers, etc. and then use 4 digit codes for the site numbers. this would allow all store numbers to be entered so you could call any store from anywhere just by knowing the store number. it would also mean you could include things like DC's which also have 4 digit location numbers.

just my 2 cents worth

I was told that the new uniform idea was originally thrown up in the air, but it was scrapped. I'm not sayin' I'm right, but that's just what I was told by my ASM.

My 2ic told me that "it'll be like we're launching a new store". I'm not quite sure what that means, but we'll be closing early to do it, and putting up stuff on the windows so people on the outside can't see in :) also heard that Head Office will be paying for staff to volunteer to help out instead of the store.

I also have some other details but not sure whether I should post them here... :) also iMathew, the unisex vest- I got one last year? And my CSM from two years ago also had a ladies cardigan back then :)
