whoa- long time since anyone posted in here... But i have a question :

If someone *most likley me* fails Aural Perception 1 - do we go on to A.p 2 or go to Aural 1B class... meep- and does anyone know if that will affect a transfer into Bmus Perf. For second year - from Dip. Mus

i just want everyone to know that even though i can't sight read for shit and have to go "every good boy deserves fruit" etc, I'm in the top stream for harmony and analysis and i'm doing FUCKING BRILLIANTLY.

I know this is kinda mean to show off etc, but it is the ONLY subject that I'm cruising with.

Bunny04...

If you fail Aural 1 then you have to do it again before you can do aural 2... they run every aural subject every semester, unlike harmony where if you fail h&a 1, you have to wait till the next year to do it again! I'm not sure how a fail would impact a transfer, I think if you were going well in most subjects, esp. your instrument, it would be fine.

Maybe you could go and make an appointment to see the dean, or email her maybe, and ask her about how transfers work and what you need to get one.

Hey. I'm thinking to do Music (Composition) when I finish school. I was wondering if anyone here does it at the moment and if they can tell me, what they think of the course.

I'm interested in studying music next year and I was wondering if anyone here (or anyone that someone could get me in contact with) is doing a BMusStudies (if it is combined with a BA, even better) that I could ask a few questions to. Actually, maybe you guys would be able to answer them anyway.

If you do Major vs. Minor (performance) in a BMus, does that effect how much private lesson time you have?

What about in a BMusStudies?

Is the Major vs. Minor in a BMusStudies the same as in the BMus?

If one did a BMusStudies specialising in Performance (Major), would you be ruling out a career in performance by not doing a straight BMus in Performance?

If anyone could help me with those, that'd be great.

Cheers,
E.

personally i think that doing a b music studies & b arts gives you more career opportunities. I don't think you should be too worried about the private lessons you have, you'll have them regardless

Private Message a BOS user called Phanatical, he goes to BOS and will give you loads of help, he does B Music Studies & B Arts but majors in Composition.

Wether its minor or Major study in an instrument you still get the same amount of hours per semester in individual instrumental major lessons- but you do a different program... Minor students don't have the big recitals.. don't have to do the concerto in 3rd year.. or the 2 nd year Junior Recital... umm.. minor Practical students do Jury Exams every year.. infront of a pannel of teachers instead..

Umm... yes.. Phanatical would help with all the other questions! ^_^

I Believe that whether you're in the BMus (Perf.), BMusStudies or BABMusStudies, if you're doing a study at Major level, then the lesson times and assessments are Exactly the same across the degree structures. Likewise at Minor level, if you're enrolled in an instrument study at minor level, you will complete the same work relevant to that instrument whether you're in the BMusStudies, BABMusStudies or BMus (Perf.). Students at Minor level have less lesson time and less assessments than those at Major level though.

As for doing a BABMusStudies or a BMusStudies instead of a BMus (Perf.), the idea is that each degree structure has a different focus. The BMusStudies has less subject requirements and is a year shorter, but this is not because it's an inferior degree, but because it provides a more general focus with greater emphasis on areas other than a student's major study. The BABMusStudies takes this even further, with the Arts emphasis on the humanities complementing the study of Music.
