All Quiet on the Western Front (Erich Remarque).

One of the most emotively powerful novels ever written. There is no better war fiction.

This is the ultimate feel-good trilogy. You will be literally laughing out loud!
Queen of Babble
Queen of Babble in the Big City
Queen of babble gets hitched all by Meg Cabot

It's currently under production to be put on the big screen, said to star Kristen Bell as Elizabeth Nichols.

For the lovers of a psychological thriller:
After the first Death by Robert Cormier.
It's a brilliantly written and structured mind puzzle.

Don't waste your time - read something that is a) interesting; and b) explores concepts worthwhile learning about. Unfortuantely, On the Road has neither
Sorry if you didn't like the book.

I loved it, so I recommended it. In my opinion it is a fantastic book, and i'd like to see where teenage culture would be today without the influence of the beat poets of the 50's-60's, without Kerouac and Ginsberg and Burroughs, etc. I think that this is a concept worth learning about. Sorry if you don't.

I never thought i would say this when i picked up the book but King Dork By Frank Portman is actually a decent book. I thought that a book written by a rock star would be a bit odd and i was right but, he has good controll over the english language, sometimes he merges 2 sentences and they don't really make sense but all in all, it is a good book. its written from the perspective of a nerd who gets bashed by "normal people" and really makes you think if you particpate in nerd hunting. One of my friends who is comong 2nd/90 in 3u english at a top 20 school needed the glossary at the back though. the constant looking up definitions of words can be annoying but it is quite a satisfiying read. The only prob is it seems like the sought of book that will become a set text for english but still a good read.

Quite well written, though not up to Lord Dunsany's standards (though few are).
Also I'd advocate Gaiman's other works ahead of this- the writing is at times laboured-, especially american gods and the graphic novel sandman.

oh, and the film is definitely also worth watching.

Why you should read it: Well written, and so addictive. Gives a glimpse into the life of the geisha in old japan. I personally have this fascination with japanese culture, art, and traditions so i really lost myself in this book. Anyways if you havent read it yet, do it.

Definately the Potato Factory trilogy

Potato Factory
Tommo & Hawk
Solomon's Song

all by Bryce Courtney, it should be compulsory reading at every school it is just so well written the emotions are show real and the story is so well based in our history, it actually reads like a real family biography (especially Solomon's song)
