while i realise this is the led zep thread, jimmy page is freinds with slash so its somehow related: what does everyone think of velvet revolver. Im going to see them next Feb, mainly to see Slash

I dont know how you can call Page's riffs 'second rate blues'.........

Page got a number of his alternate tunings from middle easern style, for example the "Friends"/"Bron-yr-aur" tuning. Others he took from traditional folk influences etc.
