Saw this movie yesterday.

It was overall a very good film - 8.5/10

To be honest, this movie seemed to have a mix of:

Forrest Gump.
The Notebook.
Into The wild.

Totally thought it was like the notebook at times, particularly the scenes they shared together.

However im not complaining both are absolutely great films!

It was too long and I couldn't understand what the old lady was saying at the beginning.

It was okay, but yeah agreed.

I think it gets exaggerated ratings from people who aren't used to really great sci-fi. The concept isn't especially amazing, doesn't reveal a great deal about the human condition. OMG he's born old and grows young.

Some major plot points didn't make sense either. Like, he gets the chick pregnant, and they're both physically fortyish. He's all "I can't raise her, I'll fade too fast, I must abandon you".

Thing is though, by the time his daughter was twenty, he would be physically twenty also, in the best shape of his life, with a spirited mind. He would have had those twenty years of raising her with no problems. He wouldn't have started to need help till she was fully independent, in her mid to late 20's. His daughter would be an adult by the time he had any problems.

It would be no burden on his wife.

Shit doesn't make sense.

Yeah, no insights into the human condition, despite heroic attempts at American epic.
Shit was covered in Forrest Gump, but Hanks is a much more superior and sympathetic actor.

I enjoyed but will forget quickly

Brad Pitt was practically a vegetable throughout. Lots of vacant staring which we were meant to see as deep and meaningful.

Do you think he could have left her when she an old woman? It would have been much more difficult for Daisy to come to terms with it - and keep in mind, his departure would have been regardless whether he stayed with her for 20 years. How could he raise both his daughter and wife? How could Daisy possibly have prepared herself for his leave?

But, when he finally did need care, she ended up coming back for him anyway.

And everyone dies eventually, but we don't abandon our families over it, just because it might be hard for them to come to terms with.

What sort of lesson are they trying to teach, "never love someone, run away if you get too attached, you'll end up losing them"?

How could he raise both his daughter and wife?

What? Why would he be raising his wife? Pretty sure she looked after herself.

How could Daisy possibly have prepared herself for his leave?

She was with him in the end anyway.

And yeah, everyone dies eventually.

It's fucked up and stupid to abandon your family just because you won't be around forever.

His situation was really no different to any other person who will inevitably grow helpless and senile. He got the same length of healthy, usefull life as anyone can expect.

He's just a cunt who ran out for no reason.

I don't think it's possible to over-emphasise how incredibly long this movie is... 166 minute run time, add the advertisements before it starts and you are easily talking about 3 hours....

Yeah I can accept that the LOTR movies were up there - but at least they weren't boring and pretentious.

Could have done without:
- Clock metaphor, seriously did this add anything to the movie?
- Hurricane Katrina, again what did this add to the movie - aside from an occassional break from the 'curiously boring story of Benjamin Button'....
- Brad Pitt stares vacantly into space - it's like totally deep

Could have added some interest:
- More exploration of Benjamin's relationship with his father

Ultimately Forrest Gump did the American epic better and The Notebook did the retelling of a love story better.

This film was stunning. Brad Pitt is gorgeous. David Fincher is a God among mere mortals.

Why do so many people complain about the runtime??? I felt it was so good that I wanted it to continue forever and ever.

I found myself thinking how nothing lasts, and what a shame that is.

Most films that receive 10 or more Oscar nods I feel don't deserve them. I am more satisfied with The Curious Case of Benjamin Button getting those nods rather than other big Oscar nodders in the past, Titanic for example received 14.
