Hello everyone, I hope you can help me on these questions

I have an Accounting Advanced Diploma which I completed in the beginning of 2008.

I am thinking of applying for university.

1- With an advanced diploma, will I be able to apply for credit exemption and reduce the duration of study

2- Since I'll be using my advanced diploma to apply, do I have to continue with Accounting or can I choose any course offered by the University and not start from scratch?

3 - What kind of university I can go, since I come from Tafe?

I hope it is understable as usually I'm not clear sometimes.

Thanks in advance, everyone.

1. Maybe, maybe not. It really depends on the University and the type of course you are doing at uni.

2. You can choose any course (as long as you are competitive enough) but you would have to start from scratch.

3. Pretty much any university as long as you are competitive enough.

When I say competitive it really means is your marks for your Advanced Diploma and/or UAI high enough compared to others applying for the course.

From CSU...
The Business Faculty has the following credit policy on TAFE and equivalent VET studies -

If the student has completed less than Certificate IV credits they will be assessed on a case by case basis and any credits restricted to Level 1 subjects.

Those students holding a Certificate IV will receive up to four relevant subjects restricted to Level 1.

Those students holding a Diploma will receive up to eight relevant subjects while those holding an Advanced Diploma up to 12 relevant subjects.

No credit for TAFE and equivalent VET studies will be awarded for Level 3 subjects without the specific approval of the Faculty Board.

The above Faculty policy applies to the Bachelor of Business (all specialisations except Accounting) and the Bachelor of Business Studies.

(Mind you I know someone who did Adv Dip in Accounting and got 12 or 13 credits for Bach of Accounting at CSU).

Check each uni you are interested in. They won't give you specifics until you enrol, but they should be able to give you a ballpark figure... especially if it is a course with lots of electives - that's where they usually fill up the TAFE credit.

Thanks for the advice, being competitive is pretty important if it does not kill me lol.

Thanks for the excerpt from the CSU site. Since I live in Hornsby and don't drive, I have to find a university that is convience for me to travel to and then ask them about the Tafe credit.

So probably I'll pick Macquarie University

and do an Undergraduate course.

But the CSU looks better in term of quality website but I mustn't judge on that.

Many thanks for you guys for giving me input. Now I'm less confused and know where to go.

Oh, but the joys of doing distance education (which CSU are good at).... you get to do things at times when you want to. Good for getting a part time job.
