Hi everyone I'm currently undertaking a Diploma in Pathology at Sydney Institute of Technology ( Ultimo College ) and was wondering if I can get into Medical Science this year at UWS with a certificate 4 because I have asked, and my head teacher told me I can withdraw from the course with a certificate 4 as this is my second year in the course but I'm really interested in Medical Science. If so where can I apply and can you please if you know any useful links please post it, or if there are any application forms I can lodge online for this course, also what is required from me, can I still apply as a mature age student.:)

Thanks in Advanced guys

Hi Sarah101989, you are able to apply for that course, and you may apply for the mid-year intake (to start studying late July). The applications for that period are open till 11 June, and can be completed on the UAC website, www.uac.edu.au
Applicants are divided into two categories: current school leavers (students sitting the HSC this year) and non-current school leavers (people not sitting the HSC this year – often referred to as mature age). A current school leaver is assessed on the HSC solely, whereas non-current school leavers are assessed on the following:
- HSC results (e.g. ATAR, UAI, TER) or other secondary leaving certificate
- TAFE or college certificates and diplomas (above cert 3 level – minimum cert 4)
- Work experience (if it is paid and at least the equivalent to one year full time)
- The Special Tertiary Admission Test (optional).
You might also be eligible for recognition of the previous study you’ve done; UWS gives ‘advanced standing’ based on previous study and experience relevant to your new course (check out: http://www.uws.edu.au/currentstudents/current_students/starting_out/step_3_plan/advanced_standing)
Before you withdraw from your Diploma, i would strongly suggest that you email the UWS Admissions team as they may be able to provide you with an indication of how competitive your application would be based on a certificate 4 level and the grades you have been receiving. Email admissions@uws.edu.au with all of your educational information (e.g. HSC results, TAFE results, etc) and they can provide an informal assessment. If you have any questions, please call the UWS Course Information Centre on 1300 897 669.
