I prefer the social events over the more political ones.
You don't even need to dress up a lot, just wear a long sleeved shirt and jeans!

Oh I like dressing up, I just don't feel like spending $150-200 on a conference or $70 on a ball. And I'd suggest that if you have an aversion to the political events that you might be in the party for the wrong reasons.
