edit: I found notes on these and I'm sorry, I got a bit confused with the names of things.

Last year we did seminar type things and different people presented a text they'd studied for supplementary material. Ones I can remember:

Plays:
- Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? - Edward Albee
- Pygmalion - George Bernard Shaw
- Educating Rita - Willy Russell
- The Club - David Williamson
- Top Girls - Caryl Churchill
- A Doll's House - Henrik Ibsen

Novels:
- Tess of the d'Urbevilles - Thomas Hardy
- Heat and Dust (I think it was called that) - Ruth Prawer

I thought of another one whilst watching it on tv tonight - i dont know how 'sophisitcated it is' but it was Tannen to a dot point - All Saints - i think u would have to have watched it tonight - or next weeek but there is a convo goign on b/w two of them (i'm not good at names - i'm not a big fan) but i think its Vincent? and one of teh girls

She's complaining becuase he refuses to share what is wrong with him - typical Male behaviour according to Tannen... the women wanting to engage in 'trouble talk'
So if anyone is looking for something a bit more modern to relate to text - that woudl be an excellent senario

- Bridget Jones' Diary
- Hamish & Andy (good for analysing male conversations)
- the Bible (all the He, brothers, sons etc. Good to link in with language changes in society)

The Devil Wears Prada is also a good one.
Because Miranda Priestly transgresses typical female genderlect etc etc.
And because Andrea changes her personality throughout, just to fit in at her job, it makes a comment about societies values.

Also the movie "Clueless" by Amy Heckerling.
The exchanges between Murray and Dion are worth noting, the is a lot of good stuff in this movie.
