Summer School @ Macquarie (1 Viewer)

Hi everyone,

I'm interested in doing one of the Macquarie Law summer school subjects (cross-institutionally) and would appreciate some advice.

Does anyone know if you can get FEE-HELP for them, or if you absolutely have to pay for them with your own funds?

Also the law subjects seem to go for only 5 days. Are they full 8 hour days?

Thanks for that. But I'd already been to that website and it didn't definitively answer either of my questions.

I called up and it was confirmed that FEE-HELP isn't available, which is pretty bizarre. There are very few full fee paying courses that aren't enabled for FEE-HELP.

And yeah the second question I had re: length is not addressed. The law classes just say they are on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday, with no mention of hours. To get approval from my home institution the course needs to be at least 36 hours long, so I need more detail! The lady on the phone didn't have a clue.

Amazing how difficult it can be to get info out of Universities some times.

36hrs... from memory, I've heard they've only got a couple on-campus days, and the rest is assigned work for you to go through at your own speed... So it's practically an external unit. Whether that's acceptable in calculating 36hrs or not, I don't know...

Perhaps you could find out who runs the course and talk to them? I'd imagine if you looked at the normal, in-semester course, the person who runs/lectures/something that will also be involved in the summer one..

I'm thinking of taking the Intellectual Property subject. It's actually going to be my last ever law subject, yay!

Some of the other faculties have full times up for their summer subjects and some come close to 36 hours. So there's hope, but yeah fingers crossed.

Not that I am that keen on paying the $1600 for 1 subject. UNSW is HECsable so I'm also making inquiries with them.

Macq is overpriced.

I'm doing my law summer school with SCU in beautiful Byron Bay. It's $400 cheaper, and it's just off the beach!

Yeah and you can get FEE-HELP for it. But my Uni (ANU) won't accept SCU as the courses are only 26 hours long. :-(

Hope this can give you an insight...as I am doing the BUSL250 course and From the information i have been given regarding BUSL250 Summer Program.

I have to pay the $1600 up front
5 days from 10-5pm on campus over three weeks and the exam is on 30 Jan 07.

Materials are going to be sent around the 18 December and there is a fair bit of reading to do before the classes start... other than that .... the rest of the information is going to be sent out to interested students in late october.
