I'd love if anyone could suggest me some good books to read. But please note..

- no fantasy books
- realistic fiction very much preferred
- interest in psychological stuff
- interest in books that will trigger emotions such as sadness

Books I enjoy that might give you an idea of what I like:

Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn (one of my fave books)
Dark Places by Gillian Flynn
Sharp Objects by Gillian Flynn
Damage by Josephine Hart
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold

Since you like the lovely bones, 'The time traveler's wife by Audrey Niffenegger' would be really good as well! :)
Looking for Alibrandi by Melina Marchett (realistic, belonging)
Saving Francesca by Melina Marchett (not sad but a really great book of knowing your identity and finding teenage romance)
My sister's keeper by Jodi Picoult (really sad, realistic)

That's all I can think of atm. There are heaps more- just google search.

Breathe by Tim Winton

Though I do like most of the books above^ because I am a Marchetta and Piccoult fan. And I liked the Lovely Bones myself as well.

Animal Farm - George Orwell is a nice short one, I wouldn't call it 'realistic' fiction, but the metaphors are incredibly obvious so you can link it to real life anyway

A more 'realistic' one would be, 1984 - George Orwell, very thought provoking in my opinion

Lord of the Flies - William Golding is also great

A book that I love is 'Surrender' by Sonya Harnett. Absolutely haunting - finished it a changed person.

Wintergirls by Laurie Halse Anderson, it's about a girl named Lia who has anorexia nervosa, and how she deals with her friend Cassie's death. Lia and Cassie both have/had eating disorders and it really gets inside the mind of Lia. It's brilliantly written, although it can be confronting to read at times.

Atonement by Ian McEwan. It's set in the 1930s/40s predominantly and really gets into the psyches of all the characters. Also, it is pretty sad in parts but mainly it deals with the main character's guilt/self-absorption depending whether or not you're 'on her side'. (It's in 3 parts, it's kind of hard to explain but in part 1 the "perspective" jumps from character to character in different chapters without them actually narrating it).
