Subject Selection Advice? (1 Viewer)

'kay everyone, I'm having problems with my subject selection. Well, I basically know what I'm going to do, I guess I'm just a little... bothered by the... consequences?

English Ext. 1
Maths Ext. 1
Latin
Economics
Geography

So that would be 12u next year.
However,

----

summarised.
I would like to pick up 3 ext subjects in Year 12 (eng, maths, latin).
I would like to do Physics (compulsory 14u for 1 months anyway)
Then I will decide what to drop (most likely Physics... but it's so interesting!... but I suck at it, so I'll probably fail anyway :L)

So:
Do you think I should drop anything else, or let go on one of the ext subjects in Yr 12, etc.?

Will it be a work overload?

Other suggestions/advice/experience, esp on people doing 14u and over?

sorry, I just thought to add a bit extra to specify my exact problems.
you can skip this bit if you like. It'd just be nice to get some specific advice XD~

detailed.
problem 1.
I really want to do Physics. Since our school makes us choose 14u at the beginning of the year, and then we drop later throughout the term if we want, I'm going to choose Physics as my extra.

BUT our school generally isn't very strong in Physics. Teachers are slightly absent-minded, barely any band 6s (every year). Unless there's a bigger cohort, in which case there are some more people who do really well, but also some more who get a lot lower.

problem 2a).
In Year 12 I want to pick up Ext 2 for eng/maths, and Ext for Latin. That means it'll be 15u, and our school said that they can only fit up to 14u in a timetable! And then it'd still go over... like, 14u is fitting 50 periods into a 48 period timetable (morning/afternoon classes)... since our school decides to have 1hr 5min periods =="

They might be a little lenient on me and let me take 15u, since I'm doing 3 ext subjects? But then I can't do Physics... or I'll have to drop geo/eco/latin.

Eng/geo/eco is pretty much dead set, I guess I'm wondering if I should cont. with Maths E2 or LatinE?

problem 2b).
continuing on from problem 2a, one of the other reasons I don't want to drop eng/maths/geo/eco/latin is because our school does heaps well, more so in those subjects. Also, those are my strongest subjects (er, I'm not very good with sciences...)

eng 4u gets a lot of teacher-support, and it's one of my strongest subjects
maths 4u is kind of a must for me (my parents, actually, but I don't mind myself). I do reasonably in assessment tasks/topic tests, but our school does very basic maths, then overloads in the senior years. So I'm a little worried for that :S
eco is just to keep me along with what I want to do in uni. Commerce is also my favourite subject this year.
geo, our school always gets at least 1 person into the top 5 in the hsc every year (past 7 years) ~ Generally, it's probably one of the school's most consistent subjects
latin 3u, our school does consistently well, everyone gets band 6, & the probably the most supportive teachers all-round.

problem 3.
Like I said before, -WORK OVERLOAD-. I'll have either no free periods or a heap of morning/afternoon classes (maths ext. 1/2 has one morning, one afternoon, latin has 1+ morning)

Sorry for the rant :S

btw, I go to PymbleLC.

I really want to do Physics. Since our school makes us choose 14u at the beginning of the year, and then we drop later throughout the term if we want, I'm going to choose Physics as my extra.

BUT our school is so crap at Physics it's not even remotely funny. I asked one of the teachers and he said only a few people got into band 6 last yr, mostly band 5s. So even if I get into band 6, it'll probably be a low band 6 result. And plus, considering all the other stuff I'm doing, -WORK OVERLOAD-.
If it doesn't hurt having a go for first few weeks, certainly give it a shot.

Besides, every year, the result is different. In some years, we had only one Band 6 in Physics but in other year, we had someone getting top in the state for Physics and 8th in the state for Physics. It's all about individuals.

Your problem is not that. Your problem is that you are looking too far ahead. Seriously, see how you go in year 11 and THEN choose what you want to do.

continuing on from problem 2a, one of the other reasons I don't want to drop eng/maths/geo/eco/latin is because our school does heaps well.

eng 4u gets a lot of teacher-support, and I've been doing well ~ my yearlies have been consistent 100% or 1 mark off
maths 4u is kind of a must for me (my parents, actually, but I don't mind myself). I do v well in assessment tasks/topic tests, but our school does... really basic/slow math in the 7-10 years... compared to selective... then overloads later.
eco is just to keep me in the Commerce/Law path, because that's what I want to do. I'm doing well in commerce too, missed an entire semester last year 'cos I switched from textiles to com, still equal topped the grade. Commerce is my favourite subject this year.
geo, our school always gets at least 1 person into the top 5 in the hsc every year (past 7 years) ~ I got equal 2nd highest mark in last yearly, 100 in SC (we accelerated) and 100% for all my elective geo assessments this year, so geo for me = easy marks.
latin 3u, our school does consistently well, everyone gets band 6, &depending on the teacher, will often have people in top 10 in hsc
How your school goes shouldn't have much to do with YOU.

problem 3.
Like I said before, -WORK OVERLOAD-. I'll have either no free periods or a heap of morning/afternoon classes (maths ext. 1/2 has one morning, one afternoon, latin has 1+ morning)

Sorry, I changed the font colour :S

Oh lyounamu, thanks for your time, sorry for the misunderstanding I didn't explain that properly~ just had subject selection night the other day, kind of stressed out :S

I didn't mean that how well the school does is related to me, I meant that our school basically gets band 6s for 40%+ of the grade except in most sciences. I was just trying to explain how well I do in relation to that... hmm I'll go edit it.

Don't worry too much. You don't have to exert extra pressure on yourself because of such trivial matter like subject selection. By looking at your performance, it's quite excellent, I must say. Hopefully all the subject selection turns out nicely for you.

I totally understand what you mean. It's smart how you are able to predict by analysing your position of your school with your school's performance in HSC. However, you also have to embrace for the worst.

Hehe, thanks. My eyes are like gah to anything greyish on the computer screen :)

With regard to physics, it's as Namu said. You can always be the year that changes the trend so give it a go!

And with the rest of it - don't think too far ahead! You won't know what you will truly enjoy and can handle until you actually do the subjects, so try them out in year 11 first and then decide what to drop/pick up later.

Probably overloading a bit so I'd drop Physics like you said.
