Re: StuVac & Exam Period Bitch and Moan Thread (I, 2007)

Hurray for stodgy arts faculty and a lack of proper exams.

I have to
-write a research proposal (2000wds due next Monday)
-do a take home exam (2000wds, get it on Friday, hand in on Wednesday)
-hand in 3000w essay tomorrow that Ive finished already

Ive only got about 10 days of uni left ^_^

ugh.
Geopol is the biggest joke of an exam ever. Good luck, cos its hard.

I'm sorry to everyone that I haven't been around as much recently, I've had some password problems (as well as assessment problems and boy problems) and I'm totally screwed for exams as I haven't started studying yet. And the bloody tree is blooming.

Re: StuVac & Exam Period Bitch and Moan Thread (I, 2007)

Today I rented Gattaca. So that's studying.
I have a week to prepare for english (and David told us we could pick and choose topics to study, so I only need to remember stuff on a few texts. WOOT). I did my presentation on The Dispossessed so I can rattle on about that and Gattaca for sci-fi and dystopia. Then for the second part of the exam I'll re-watch Phonebooth and Rope and write about them and tragedy.

Then I have another week to prepare for 1019, and Dr Stevie gave us 9 topics to study for that. It pretty much just involves reading his hundred odd pages of notes, as well as some course readings.

Then I have one day to prepare for 1017 BUT it's open book so all I have to do is read all the printed off lecture powerpoints and index them and the notes, as well as the workshop books. Should be pretty easy.

So I'm not stressed. No mystery exams. Perhaps this will be my downfall.

I did mine on Sir Orfeo. Something about a sense of chaos at the end I believe.

You know one of the readings for the Gulliver's Travels part of 1002 is written by Dr. Semler? He's written his little journal article using the most complex language possible. I've always hated douchebagey academics who try to sound all intelligent by using complex sentences and so on, and Semler delivers on sounding like a douchebag. Honestly, the best articles are the ones that deliver information without making it a struggle to read...

"Along with these conundrums comes a far more complicated bundle of considerations centered on a devilishly inexplicable trinity."

"she "over-rules" their "hearts" (ll. III-I2) with a totality that annihilates any possibility of her spectators exercising free rational determination in the choice between A (to love) and not-A (not to love)"

^Why all that A and not-A crap? Why not just say "free rational determination in the choice to love or not to love" - BLARAGGHHG! It's almost as bad as what was written in the Holquist article in our reader...

"This otherness is not merely a dialectical alienation on its way to a sublation that will endow it with a unifying identity in higher consciousness"

Academics have small penises so they use big and complicated sentences to get their point across. That's my theory.
