It's not a solution, it's actually lowering the quality of the homo-sapien species. If such weak and inferior traits are allowed to be inherited by future generations, then the future generation will be weaker, less-versatile, more susceptible to allergies and infections. (Basically, like michael jacksons children. A cold breeze gives them a head-cold.)
That is the most arsed up account of natural selection I've ever seen.

Huh, like you could do better.
Are you trying to say that the the human species will strengthen because of this?

Are you actually thinking about Cross-Species? (that's the only way this type of research will have a positive effect in the long-term.)

Explain to me how you can create insulin producing cells without using embryonic stem cells?
But why do want to create insulin producing cells? When we can get it from pigs?

^ Because there isn't enough to go around, particularly in developing countries? It requires killing a pig? Also, not sure, but it may require purification, disinfection etc.

So that people are not dependant on injections, have to have annoying diets etc? :/
but apparently there is research into tablets that can do the same thing. There are no 'annoying diets' with diabetes - its simple dont eat raw suger dont eat too much lollies. ahve lollies with artifical sweeteners. Eat at proper times, dont be a junkie.

Its basically have healthy diet like anyone else.

Or instead we could maybe realise the stem-cell dream and be able to cure them

You are wrong and I will tell exactly why you are wrong.

Your argument above is exactly the kind of retarded eugenics that Bshoc blames on scientists and empiricists, despite the fact that they had absolutely no place in science in the first place, and were entirely pseudoscientific bullshit propagated by stigmas and politicians.

What is strength
How do you define a 'stronger' human species? You would probably take into account a lack of genetic diseases. But what is a genetic disease? They occur when the laws of probability go against you, in that both your parents happened to have an uncommon recessive allele which, when combined, gave you a trait which has severe evolutionary disadvantages to it. Such as Motor Neuron Disease, a crippling disorder that renders an otherwise healthy person into a twisted shell.

What you appear to be saying is that modern technology and society is propagating the spread of genetic diseases, as it allows people who would otherwise die and not pass on their genes (.ie. Down Syndrome, but this is actually a chromosomal disease, not a genetic disease, but point still stands) to live and thereby pass on their 'faulty' genes. But, as I assure you, every single human being on this planet contain several recessive genes which, combined with a similar recessive gene, will probably deform or kill your child. This is one of the reasons why incest is so frowned upon - where do you think that extra toe comes from?

My point is that it is impossible to wipe out genetic diseases, because most carriers of them are perfectly healthy, and you will probably end up killing most of the population of Earth to get your 'genetically pure' race, and that race will probably die due to some disease due to a lack of genetic variation anyway. At the same time, modern technology allows the otherwise crippled to enjoy some quality of life, and it's not as if these people are incapable of being productive human beings. While Stephen Hawking is a freak in how well he has excelled himself, an anonymous man with Cystic Fibrosis is just as capable of giving love and affection to friends and family and being socially useful as an otherwise healthy human being can.

PS: The last time I made a long post in NCAP, I was accused of plagarising it. If anyone was to say the same thing about this particular post, I would like to invite you to drive to Ku-Ring-Gai National Park, throw yourself off a cliff, and get the fuck out of my gene pool.

Stem cell practices have just got the go ahead i myself think it offers fantastic hope for the future but by all means contribute your thoughts on the topic....

Re: stem cells practices

I fully support stem cell research and think the practices should be generely unrestricted. Religion should not have any say in it, and ethics should only be considered when evaluating imminent dangers.

Stem Cell Research

Remember:

Stem cells are primal cells found in all multi-cellular organisms that retain the ability to renew themselves through mitotic cell division and can differentiate into a diverse range of specialized cell types. Research in the human stem cell field grew out of findings by Canadian scientists Ernest A. McCulloch and James E. Till in the 1960s.
The three broad categories of mammalian stem cells are: embryonic stem cells, derived from blastocysts, adult stem cells, which are found in adult tissues, and cord blood stem cells, which are found in the umbilical cord. In a developing embryo, stem cells can differentiate into all of the specialized embryonic tissues. In adult organisms, stem cells and progenitor cells act as a repair system for the body, replenishing specialized cells.
As stem cells can be readily grown and transformed into specialised cells with characteristics consistent with cells of various tissues such as muscles or nerves through cell culture, their use in medical therapies has been proposed. In particular, embryonic cell lines, autologous embryonic stem cells generated through therapeutic cloning, and highly plastic adult stem cells from the umbilical cord blood or bone marrow are touted as promising candidates.

Medical researchers believe that stem cell therapy has the potential to radically change the treatment of human disease. A number of adult stem cell therapies already exist, particularly bone marrow transplants that are used to treat leukemia. In the future, medical researchers anticipate being able to use technologies derived from stem cell research to treat a wider variety of diseases including cancer, parkinson's disease, spinal cord injuries, and muscle damage, amongst a number of other impairments and conditions. However, there still exists a great deal of social and scientific uncertainty surrounding stem cell research, which could possibly be overcome through public debate and future research.
Stem cells, however, are already used extensively in research, and some scientists do not see cell therapy as the first goal of the research, but see the investigation of stem cells as a goal worthy in itself.

So are you for or against stem cell use in order to cure diseases/disorders?

Re: Stem Cell Research

Somewhat related:

Blog post said:
David Clarke has come out today to throw his 2c in on the George Pell/Stem Cells issue, saying:

“There may be (MPs) walking around thinking they know what the doctrine of the church is or should be, better than bishops, better than the cardinal, better than the Pope himself,” he told parliament.

“They think they may know, but they don’t.”

This is a rather bizarre claim to be making, and I think that the implications which can be drawn from it are fundamentally against the separation of Church and State.

No MP, to my knowledge, has come out claiming that they know better than the Pope. Nor has anyone come out and said that they voted in favour of the bill because of anything they derived from scripture. We see, then, that Clarke thinks that it is implied that an MP will always vote the way their religion dictates, if it has a stance on the issue in question. I don’t think that this is the case, nor should it be.

I have no problem with religious practice as a concept, if people wish to believe in a divine entity without having any real evidence of it’s existence, then that is their right, we live in a free society. But government decisions must always be driven by what there is an objective argument and/or evidence for. If an MP votes the way their religion dictates when they would otherwise have come to a different conclusion based on facts and evidence, they are doing the electorate a disservice. They are forcing an arbitrary book onto me because they would not personally choose to have their disease cured with stem cells. They are doing the exact same thing that a fundamentalist Islamic state is doing when they ban pork or force women to wear the burqa because those in charge hold an unprovable belief.

Personally I find that pretty fucking scary.

For

The fact that it is being held back because of the religious beliefs of certain politicians is ridiculous... religious people should have no say in this kind of thing.

I'm waiting for some dumb fuck to come along and ruin the party for all of us "for stem cell research" partiers.
