It appears they have the final design based on what I saw in the videos in Steam when I was looking at the sale. I don't know - it doesn't look comfortable and looks downright awkward to use with the awkward analogue stick, puny face buttons and of course the dual haptic trackpads.

I wonder how it'll feel to play though- I guess everyone thought Xbox controller s looked a bit funky with the layout but the staggered layout turned out great. Dare I say, I like it more than the PS4 controller (but why oh why did I buy a PS4 and not an XBox One?!).

It's worth noting that the Steam Controller is intended to be a complete keyboard and mouse replacement for all compatible SteamOS games, so the controller is designed around the haptic feedback trackpads.

All the remaining buttons are positioned with the knowledge that these are affectively supplementary. I'm sure that Steam Boxes will have USB support for your standard console controllers.

Yeah watching the video and seeing people use it like a mouse (or more like a trackpad) when editing a layout didn't seem very comfortable.
