You also seem to have a grand aspiration, that is admirable and shows maturity beyond your age. I don't know what I want to do at all, neither do some people 10 years your age.

If I was still in high school I'd say on a personal level all rounders - I'd much rather see 10 units of 90+. Given that I was pretty much 1 mark from a state rank in 2 subjects anyway, i'd still prefer all rounders.

Buuuuuuuut I'm gonna go ahead and say neither even matter once you get into uni so that whole prestige thing about it are both pretty null and void :haha:

All rounders. (or high b6 in all subs :p)
it's more important imo to spread your efforts evenly across all subjects to maximize your atar. (unless you really want to state rank that badly)

edit:
just realised you were talking about 'glory' and 'prestige'. In those terms, state rank is better by farrrrr. (it's more rare.)
but in terms of which one is more useful, it'd be all rounders :)

nah but probably all rounders, imo its probably better to be well rounded than really good at one sub and "crap" at everything else

But you can still get 99+, achieve a state rank in 1 subject, and not be an all rounder.

This. B4 in English here and still did well.

I know someone who state ranked something and got a B2 or something but still got a 99.

Personally, I prefer HSC All Rounders :) (having achieved it myself - was my aim as well since the start of Year 11).

(Though, I got a bit close to a potential SR in Business Studies - like 1 or 2 HSC marks off)

All Rounders illustrates a well-balanced individual in terms of different academic subjects.

If you asked me ''Would you rather keep your HSC All Rounders or trade it in for a state rank in Business Studies?''. I'd keep the All Rounders :haha:

I would say a state rank. It's the much harder feat.

Getting 90 exactly or above in 10 different units is probably the ''easier'' task (nevertheless its still very hard) compared to getting like a 97 or 98 or 99 or 100 in a subject.

To get 97-100 for any subject, you'd probably need to have the best exam day of your life on the day of the HSC exam. A few sillies here and there... and basically you won't be able to SR.

You can still get all rounders even if you don't ''god mode'' your HSC exams (as long as you did just enough to make the band 6 cut-off minimum for 10 units worth of subjects).

There were 1,236 all rounders last year. With 75,168 students taking at least one HSC course, this is about 1.6% of students getting all-rounders. (These numbers may be slightly off, different sources gave different numbers.)

There were ~800 state ranks, a slightly lower number...but this is partially due to there being many courses with small cohorts.

For courses with large cohorts, such as Mathematics, 20 students out of 54,584 got rankings (0.0004%).

Contrasting with a smaller course, in MX2 there are only around 4000 students, 10 of whom get rankings (0.25%).

So speaking purely in terms of percentiles, it seems a state ranking is a "harder" achievement, at least for courses that don't have tiny cohorts.
