Well, the first step to speed writing is thus:

Neater is not better.

Once you have that in your system, it'll come easier to you.

I'd say that 8 good quality pages in the HSC will gaurentee a Band 6.

I have really small writing, so it's more like 4-5 pages for me. Should I make my writing bigger so the essay looks longer? I know I shouldn't HAVE to, but some dumb teacher out there might just assume the essay is short.

cutting down your extended responses to 1200-1300 words. Use a pen that "glides". Putting weight on your pens, e.g. rubbers, batteries, etc. I've never tried this but i've seen some people use this technique and it apparently works.
