Use the mass of earth to determine the gravitational acceleration acting on a meteor of mass 1 tonne at an altitude of 2300KM above the earth surface. I tried using g = Gm/r*2 but got stuffed up answer :(

Did you use mass of earth as the M and (6400+2300) km as the radius (after converting to metres).

Here is my attempt:

F = Gm1m2 / d^2

F = (6.67*10^-11) * (1000) * (6*10^24) / (2300000 + 6400000)^2

F = 5287N

F = ma

a = F / m

a = 5287 / 1000

a = 5.2ms^-2

I used g=GM/r2 and 5.32m/s2. Are you sure you squared the denominator when using the calculator? Cause that might explain the stuffed up result.

Ya thats the right answer. i forgot to square the denominator. :(
