Never done one before for maths.

When you study, it is probably best to do every question possible with full working out.
Then when you take your book, you will find that you have done all types of questions and you should get 95+%

Its usually a test where you teacher allows you to bring one sheet of paper with anything into the exam room. At least that's what my school does.

Dang man, whats the point in that?
Anyways, hardness depends on school (are you from Cabramatta High? i ask this because one of my friends had a friend from this school who did an open-book test)

Studying: if you understand maths concepts with ease, then a small amount of textbook questions or something to quickly apply what you've learnt would be enough (imo). If you have trouble understanding, then do a lot of textbook questions until you no longer find difficulty in doing them

Btw, when you study for maths do questions as if you are in a test (i.e. with extreme focus and concentration) so you minimise any silly errors

^ The trick is to disguise studying as something else (preparation of notes or whatever) :p

dont bring any paper in and do the test without any thing on you and in proper test conditions, after preparing for it at home.

We can't really tell you how hard it will be because we know nothing about your school.

And in general, open book tests are more difficult because students have the added aid of the material they're bringing in.

Why would you disadvantage yourself by doing that? While I agree it is a useless test, everyone else in his class will have every formula they need on a sheet of paper. If he has a mind blank in the test and can't remember a formula, he will lose marks and ranks when he could have had the answer right in front of him. It might not be preparing him for the HSC exam, but assessments are about doing well, not exam practice, so you utalise every advantage given to you.

Bottom line its pretty much equivalent of a school giving this year's HSC english essay question as an assessment. Its so illogical. Many schools are quite reactive rather than proactive.

It really depends on your school rank. Mine's 150 I think and our open book in year 11 was so easy - didn't even need the formulae or whatever. But if your school ranking is good <50 or something then it may be hard, or very hard. Hope the exam went well.
Not really. My school ranks ~250, and I found my schools papers harder than Ruse's.
