Australia is finally officially a part of the AFC!

Officially invited, just need FIFA to rubber stamp it. Apart from New Zealand the rest of Oceania will love to see us out, so we're basiacally in now.

Good times ahead, the financial benefits of this are massive, once major corporations realise that a lot of our games will be beamed into potentially millions of households into Asia they'll jump on the sponsorship bandwagon. Who'd have thought that rugger-bugger John O'Neill would do so much for real football in such a short space of time.

Potentially we're the third or 4th best team in the region so unless we draw Korea or Japan in round one we should qualify for 2010. Plus Asian Champions League, Asian Cup every 4 years etc etc :) :) :)

Fuck me I'm happy about this. Hope it doesn't all cock up somewhere.

Nuts, should've gone considering I had the day off from Uni.

Just read it on the Football365 site and had a good chuckle ...

Wigan Athletic chairman Dave Whelan has promised to give manager Paul Jewell a £40 million transfer kitty if they win promotion to the Premiership this season ...
Come again? £40 million equates roughly to $1 billion Australian? :p

Nah, it equates to about 100million AUD. And good luck to Paul Jewell if he gets that type of money, the guy worked wonders on a budget at places like Bradford etc so it'll be a big boost for em.

Dave Whelan their owner also owns JJB Sports, a big brand of sportswear in the UK. 40 mill pounds is spare change from under the couch for him. Still a very generous transfer kitty nonetheless.
