Before assessments, is it okay to rest in bed for 6-8 hours ( or whatever normal sleep time is) and relax/close your eyes, without getting sleep? Will it significantly affect your ability to concentrate, or will it be okay as your eyes/mind are relaxing.

I know sleep is best, but before assessments I find it hard to get to sleep...

Most people find it hard to get to sleep before big exams. Your better off going to bed early, allowing time to fall asleep. Resting for the same period of time isn't as effective, and with the stress of exams, I imagine you couldn't stay relaxed for that long anyway.

Relaxing for 6-8 hours is very hard, doubt you can do that. Usually, I just get up extremely early the morning before or sleep extremely late, so that the night before something important, I can sleep easily.

you need REM sleep to rest your mind etc, just lying would be more or less the same as not sleeping at all although it be a bit better.
