the unknown- 'A blood-rimmed horizon' beyond the 'Equator'.
whilst the migrants are participating in a physical journey the obstacles they encounter are emotional- leaving their homeland: traditions, culture, familes and the effects from the memories of war need to be left behind if they are to make a start in the promised land implied by the title.
