Someone give me a quick break down in how to do translations. i get confused by all the formulas when b>a etc, etc.

The values of 'a' and 'b' determines the 'fatness' and 'skinniness' of hyperbola

A formula:


Horizontal hyperbola





Vertical hyperbola




Something to help you remember is: 'a is always the 1st number'

Also, what about ellipses/hyperbolas that are slanted. Are do they not come up in 4u?
