how they're acting as an acid or base, otherwise it just sounds the same as amphoteric substances.
Specifically, amphiprotic substances can donate
OR accept protons (H
+), but not necessarily in an acid/base reaction.
ANYWAY, as "amphoteric" is not in the syllabus...
