SIBT Timetables

Hi everyone,

I'm currently working full-time and I have just received my offer for SIBT Diploma of Commerce. I was wondering has anyone attended SIBT before and what the timetable scheme is like as I'll still like to work FT if possible to attend nightly classes only.

It would be very helpful if someone had some insight on this topic.

Cheers

One cannot have all. If u study 1 or 2 units u can work (nearly) full time. Taking 3 won't let u do that.

U can still pass all but what would u learn from the course? Have u ever pondered (on) it?

Hmm first year units are easy especially in sibt but then if u havnt been studying for a while (I saw u hsc was like 2004), i suggest u not to work full time while studying part time.. at most take like 2 subjects.. however if ur really smart it should be alright for u. And I dun think all subjects have night classes in sibt, do they?

it would be alright if ur going to spend ur weekend catching up with all the works as sibt doesnt have many assignments like what uni has, so just by reading lect notes in sibt is more than enough.

Sorry for the late reply.

Yes, I have. I've previously studied B Engineering at UNSW but wasn't exactly what I was looking for and my marks aren't high enough to get into where I want to go so I have to take an alternative path (i.e. SIBT). I also previously did Accounting via correspondence whilst working full-time and again wasn't exactly what I was after. I'd be looking at quitting work in my 3rd/4th year to concentrate on studies but my work offers study support so they might allow me to go PT.

But as tajid73 stated, the subjects are fairly easy if you're smart!

I called SIBT up and asked about their timetables and they said the latest classes they offer are in the times of 5-9pm so I can still manage to attend the afternoon classes in the city. Every time I call up SIBT, they have a person who has English as a second language so it's a bit troublesome for me since she has never been helpful with answering my questions and I'd feel rude if I had to ask to speak to someone else.

Back to my original question, does anyone know what the actual timetable structure is like?

Can your question be more specific as to what structure you actually meant? as I think all timetables have pretty much the same structures. But I will try answering your question as to how I understood it.

You choose your timetable usually 1 day after the results are posted but as you are new student, you have to attend the orientation day and enrol+register your class there (which is like 1week after everyone else has registered).

Unlike uni where you actually enrol and then register for classes a few days later, enrolment+class registrations in sibt opens at the same time. You might be a bit disadvantaged this semester as new students always get bad timetables as good ones have been chosen by enrolled students.

When you register your class in sibt, first you need to choose what units you are going to do and then you choose "a class (might be based on the class' time in your case)". When choosing the class, you can see the tutor and lecturers' name for the particular subjects at the particular time (also shows you the classroom number). If you have friends who have done the units before, it might be a good thing to ask them to recommend you as to which tutors and lecturers are the best in the particular units.
So when you print your timetable, you would be able to see your classes (in table with each row showing the time and column showing the day), tutors and lecturers' name, and the room number.

I do remember I did have a couple of classes until 9pm but most other classes were empty which means not all subjects were actually having night classes. So it's true that their latest class is 5-9 but not for all subjects. And I think some subjects that have practical classes will not have class after 5pm as all comp. labs are closed around that time I think. (eg. stat170 and isys123 which are core units for commerce students)

Note: These answers are based one my experience in sibt around 2 years ago and I don't know how different it is now compared to then.

Thanks for the prompt reply.

Well my question was more specific for the evening classes. How the structure of lecture and tutorial times are (if that made any sense...)? As in would both the lecture and tutorial be offered on the same day after each other or other spread out on different days, etc.

I'm trying to find out if the times would suit working 9-5 in the CBD and then going to class at either the Mac Uni campus or the city campus. As I stated before, the person at SIBT was no help to me at all over the phone. She told me to check online even tho I informed her that I have not accepted my offer yet.

I think most lectures and tutorials in sibt are not spread out on different days (unlike uni). Having said that, I did have 1 subject before that the tuts and lect were separated (this is purely because I was new student and enrolling later so could not get 1 day class for the particular subject).

Probably you can pm "blackrider89", he studied in macquarie city so he might have better idea about this.
