Should I study Law? (1 Viewer)

What is the best degree to study if you want to work with lobby groups, humanitarian aid, development projects etc.? Is a Law degree the best option? Or would it be best to a different degree that offers variety/more opportunities. All opinions welcome

I am probably not the best person to answer this and could be wrong but definitely depends on what area in those sectors you want to focus on.
Possibly business (focusing on ethics etc), public relations, marketing, accounting, politics. Although I'd suggest doing a double degree or doing something broad that gives you multiple opportunities after uni, start volunteering now as connections are everything and learn a language or two. For what you want to do, Law coupled with Arts would probably be your best bet, majoring in something like International Relations, Political Economy etc. or you could do Commerce/Law and major in Management, International Business, Industrial Relations/HR etc. I'd recommend you do Law plus whatever of those interests you the most because all those majors should be relevant and help you with what you have stated.

Law is steadily becoming a pretty solid generalist degree. There are more specialised degrees such as Social Work/International Development, but if you have the marks for law, and don't mind the challenge, go for it.

Something like law or political science would work excellently. Aerath is 100% correct with their comments re it being a generalist degree these days. The majority of graduates haven't immediately gone onto employment in legal practice for more than 10 years now if I'm not mistaken.
