Before I start, let me explain how my school works. We have what is called a compacted curriculum. Instead of doing your preliminary in Year 11 and HSC in Year 12, they both get split up over both years. We do three subjects in year 11 (but cover both preliminary and hsc content over the year), then three in Year 12. I am currently doing my preliminary content in Year 12 (meaning I have already completed, and gotten the marks, for three subjects).

My complication is this. Last year I got :
-81 in engineering studies
-87 in business studies
-92 in general maths

This year I am doing Standard English, IPT and Physics, and because I am happy with my marks last year (I just wanted 80-85), I am looking to drop a subject. I really enjoy IT and have a a Passion for it, but I highly dislike IPT. I am not really learning much from the teachers, it scales bad, and the class is full of people that have taken it to play games. This makes me want to drop it. However, I am looking to do either a business or IT (or double) degree at Uni. This makes me want to drop Physics. I wouldn't say I dislike it, but I don't thoroughly enjoy it yet. It's kind of hard (I feel I could get 80) but I wouldn't need it for my courses, so is it worth keeping.

Overall, should I drop a subject at all? Should it be physics or IPT.

I'm kind of stuck..
(PS. Need to wait till the end of this term, when prelim ends, to drop a subject)

I'd probably keep your subjects for now.

How many people doing each individual subject?

If you're coping fine with the units you have now you should just continue with it in case you flunk a subject. Since IPT is an interest I'm assuming that you're doing well in the subjects without much effort for it. If that's the case, I think you should just go with it for the experience and as a way to relieve stress if it's not taking too much time.

Physics is a hard subjects and requires a lot of work put into it. If you're good at maths then I don't see a reason to drop it. I would rather put more effort into physics since it's a high scaling subjects. Getting a high mark in IPT doesn't really mean it'll help your ATAR.
