should i do physics? is 14 units too much? (1 Viewer)

hey guys,

i am about to choose subjects for year 11 and i was wondering if i should do physics? I don't really need it for my university preference but I'm curious to see if i will like it and what we actually learn in physics from real students and not the teachers and handbooks . Is it very mathematical? If I'm good at maths is there an advantage to do physics?
and also if i do physics i will be doing 14 units, for those of you who did 14 units did you find the workload too hard?

There a tiny bit of maths in physics that involves rearrangin equations. As it isn't maths focused so there is quite a bit of theory.

You get to learn a lot of cool things like how basic motors and generators work, the basics of gravity, how the tv was made and how they discovered electrons ^^

14 units isn't bad if you manage your time wisely but it is a bit of a waste of time XD

can't really say that accurately from my experience as i only did 14 units for a few months but its not that bad.

since its year 11 i'd suggest u take 14 and drop b4 year 12 if u think its too much, since u can drop but u can't take new subjects back up
if ur unsure, take the opportunity while its there or u may regret it

the highest units i know a person took in 1 year was 16 units, so if ur a good student 14 shouldn't be too bad

with 14 units you arent going to get many study periods, if any... and you'll find that these are really good for assignments and just general schooly business...
also, chances are that after about 2 weeks you'll drop one of the subjects anyway.

14 units is a lot of work. depending on how your school organises timetables, 13 units fit into the week with zero study breaks, so i'd imagine that 14 units would see you with no study breaks and extra classes either before/after school or during lunch.

i'd recommend you talk to a year advisor or the person who organises your timetable to see if you're actually able to fit 14 units into your timetable. at my school we were only able to do a max of 13 with the school.

You could just do it for a few weeks to see if you like it or not. Then you can either drop it or keep it.

this. our school fits twelve into the timetable with no study periods, and we do have morning/afternoon classes for those who have extra units, but only for certain subjects. you'll find that free periods are invaluable, even if you just sleep, or chill out for the hour, it breaks up your day/gives you extra time to do work. i did thirteen units at the start of year twelve and it was horrible. but that's just me. [and i did three extension units so it wasn't as if they were fun subjects].

anyways, physics is pretty interesting, but most of its memorisation, only a tad bit of maths
