Does anyone have any good idea's to write for a short story on belonging?
Not bad. Reminds me a little of The Talented Mr. Ripley.- The main character is ungrateful for what he has in his life and feels that he doesn't belong. He has a friend who is very jealous of what his life. This friend lives in an orphanage, no family or friends. This friend has an uncanny resemblance to him.
- This friend lures the main character to the forest, murders him, steals his clothes and starts living his life. The friend uses the main characters body as his own body, and "fakes his death". Since he had no friends or anyone that cared for him, no one bothered to investigate further.
- The main character comes back to earth as a ghost and observes everything.
- He see's that his friend is living his life with his family, who are oblivious as to what happened to the real him. The main character realises that his imposter "belongs" more in his shoes, in his life than he did.
- The ghost realises that he has a special gift and can travel back in time to observe events. Ghost travels back to his imposters inception and watches his entire life until this moment in a matter of minutes, similarly to a fast forward and see's how his loneliness and lack of belonging drove him to such desperate acts.
- Ghost confronts the imposter, and the imposter is the only one who can see him.
- imposter explains how he lacked belonging in his currently life and decided to hijack his friends perfect life. Now he feels like he "belongs". Ghost says his belonging is a lie and lectures him like a little bitch.
- Ghost notices all the different types of belongings
- Imposter gets haunted by the ghost of his friend and goes mad and is sent to a mental institution.
THE END
Why thank youNot bad. Reminds me a little of The Talented Mr. Ripley.
