Community and Family Studies:
Resource Management (Values, Questionnaire and Analysis)

Statement:

“Premature acquisition of sex knowledge may lead to inappropriate inquisitiveness leading further to inappropriate attempts at testing the newly found knowledge
This we know because thirteen and fourteen year old students have become parents of what is to become an aborted child…
Sex education programs are designed not to assist the young but to disturb their moral equilibrium and indeed it could even be suggested that there is an element that seeks the corruption of young hearts and minds.
Sex education programs are not only destructive but are clearly and unambiguously anti life, and ultimately the antithesis of all that is good and from god.”

- Anne Lastman ‘Sex Education and the Young’, The Australian Family, Nov. 2002, 42

(media, which resulted in mum explaining )
2) Where should children first hear about safe sex and using protection against STDs?
School/Parents/Friends/Relatives/Media/Other:
Why do think this?
it's not as awkard for the child. they know that the rest of their peers in going through the same embarrsment as they are now, rather than just a one-on-one chat
3) When do you feel it is necessary to educate children about safe sex?
Before puberty/When they hit puberty/During puberty/After puberty

coz they would know about sex, and therefore will still experiment. they also need to be educated about maintaining safe sex practises.
4) Do you think there has been an increase or decrease of abortions in young people?

abortions are more accepted in society. centres can be accessed easily. more types of forms of abortion, such as the milipex, or the "option 2" pill
6) Do you think the percentage of Australian children aged 12-15 that are sexually active has increased or decreased? increased

Why do think this? I believe that parents should explain safe sex practices to their own children. However, some parents feel embarassed at the idea of talking about this topic with their children so it is always good if the child's school has some sex education program in place.

3) When do you feel it is necessary to educate children about safe sex?
Before puberty/When they hit puberty/During puberty/After puberty

Why? As the children are undergoing changes within their lives that they don't understand and are more inclined to start experimenting at younger ages due to media influences/peer pressure.

4) Do you think there has been an increase or decrease of abortions in young people?
Increase/Decrease

5) What do you think caused the increase or decrease in the amount of abortions? Lack of education about safe sexual practices, also when the incentive of the baby bonus was implemented as young girls were trying to fall pregnant just to get the money.

6) Do you think the percentage of Australian children aged 12-15 that are sexually active has increased or decreased?

Why? As different cultures are forcing early marital situations and increases in media portrayal to try to conform to what others within society are doing.

7) Do you Agree or Disagree with the statement up the top?
Agree/Disagree: should not be happening as these children have their whole lives ahead of them still.
