Re: Semester II Chatter Thread!

'Forward with fairness', I think. What about it does SA find so objectionable? Do they want a return to centralised industry-wide wage-fixing or something?
For a start, they want to see the IR system taken back to how it was pre-work choices. Seems like a respectable idea. From there, it doesn't take a super-genius to hypothesise where they'd go from there, if they had their way. Once again, talk to them outside of Fisher and find out. Could be exciting...

Actually what I found amusing about SA last week was their poster about 'Making a killing from global warming' capitalist parasites blah blah. They illustrated it with an evil finger-tapping Mr Burns standing in front of the big power plant chimneys, apparently missing the fact that the Springfield plant is nuclear and hence doesn't emit carbon.
Well that's not totally true. Nuclear power plants to require a lot of energy to get started, so there'd be a lot of carbon expenditure there. Of course, that's the same for any power source, so meh...

I think the gist of the poster was to illustrate how evil the said capatilists were, rather than the type of power...

That's more or less Labor's policy, though, when you take away the 'fresh and new' talk.

I know, I'm just being pedantic. As always.

But Labor's policy is workchoices light, from what I've heard. I mean, for instance, they're not rolling back the unfair dismissal laws to exactly how they were pre-workchoices, they're not getting rid of those anti-strike laws, they're not getting rid of that lawyer law (where you're not allowed a lawyer with you when negotiating contracts or summat?). I think the SA has fairly decent grounds to be against Rudd in this case.

Can we at least distinguish between groups here? Socialist Alternative always sets up outside of the giant oak tree, whereas AWAG and others (which triangulum was referring to) tend to set up further towards the library entrance. AWAG and most others, every time I've seen them, never really harrass or anything like that. Like cosmic doris said, your beef is with the socialist alternative, not with the guys that set up right outside the library, right?
no, my beef is with pretty much anybody who tries to hand out flyers, but SA are the worst, i concede

i also really object to the make howard history campaign, i LOATHE john howard to the nth, but the SRC and NUS should be apolitical, they should be campaigning for a better deal for students regardless of whose in power

^^^ It really is a great subject. DBM is awesome.

oh but Stazi I'm pretty sure they said somewhere that this year it was meant to be a 2 hr lecture but it never was. It turned out to be two 1 hr lectures instead.

because id prefer to have a 2-day week, which is quite likely. i also prefer to have material compacted into larger chunks. It helps my learning.

Re: Semester II Chatter Thread!

There is this guy on campus who looks EXACTLY like Axl Rose.

Like he's got the ginger hair in the same style, the same goatee, same face shape, and he's always wearing sunnies and a leather jacket.

It's so weird.

I didn't see any ambassador either and I was at uni from 9-5.

Is it ECOF1001? so there was no assessment guildeline?
Some markers prefer it if you get into details while others, not.. sometimes it's your luck

I got 2.5/5 for something in INFS too, some time ago.

I consoled myself by thinking: it's -2.5% in the entire UoS rather than "I received 50%" in this assignment..

Re: Semester II Chatter Thread!

nope Cross-cultural management. And yeah, 2.5 = 3.0, anyway. I thought I'd get 4/5, so technically, i'm only 1 mark away from what I thought. He didn't give us much guidance for the outline at all, saying that most of us should know how to write one.

I have an ECOF assignment due tomorrow. 1 page long summary (1.5 spacing) of an 8-page academic article. Probably the most difficult written assignment I've ever done. The first sentence took me half an hour to write.
