it's primarily for transfers. apart from that, it's an old, outdated tool.

i guess the only merit would be when you're applying for jobs taking subjects where most people who get HDs only get 85% and are competing with subjects where it's possible to get 95-100%.

Guys I know this is a dumb question but what is the point of calculating a persons GPA?

Very dumb! It's to give an average of how well you did, so potential employers can compare potential employees on a level playing ground.

Having studied a bit of HR, employers just dont look at marks you know
And also GPA isn't really a level playing ground because different unis may have different standards for marking

Indeed, but it's atleast something to give a rough idea of how dumb a person is HEHE

An IQ test would be more accurate

But not a great indicator of how qualified you were to perform a job.
