hey

just wondering how it is that you can secure a hard drive so that certain user accounts cant access them.

ive got my own internal hd I bought for the fam computer (cause I wanted to put music and vids and other stuff ;):p on it) and I dont want my brother going through it (wonder why? lol ;)).

So how do I make it so he cant access my drive from his account?!

thnks! :) :)

If you are running Windows XP Professional or Windows 2000 Pro you can set user permissions on each drive and user in the properties page of the drive.

There are a few ways. You can use security-specific features such as Win Pro's file encryption system, directory permission settings etc.

There are also other ways, such as storing file(s) in .ZIP format with a password attached etc.

You probably have to turn off simple file sharing. Open any explorer window, Tools -> Folder Options -> View -> in Advanced Settings scroll to the bottom and uncheck "Use simple file sharing". Now look at the drive properties page again.
