Re: Business Studies Section I: Multiple Choice

mata niche isnt correct. niche is da small specialised market, there is nothing small and specialised about the hair product. sure it is aimed at 15-20 year olds, but what is to stop a 50 year old buying it bro? A ferrari is a niche market, because it aims at rich ppl, if u not rich u cant buy ferrari. however if yu 50 year old, yu can buy the hair product. hence consumer market

Re: Business Studies Section I: Multiple Choice

La Bomba, I am almost certain it is niche. I get what you are saying, that anyone could buy the product regardless of age, but that is the same for any niche product, the difference is at WHERE it is aimed. If it has no aim then it is consumer, but its aim or target is 15-20 year olds. Therefore...niche.

Here's what my textbook says "....for example, in any newsagent you will see row upon row of magazines, each appealing to a specific niche market - male, female, young, old, high income, low income, urban, rural, and so on."

Either way, the question was ambiguous and un-called for in my opinion....

hmmm yehh you have a good point. i just really don't get how hair gel or whatever it was can be a niche product? because i believe what they have done if tried to differentiate the product to appeal to 15-20 year olds? very bad question imo

Re: Business Studies Section I: Multiple Choice

Im suspecting that it was Niche..dont know, though my text book says that niche is "a segment of a total market which offers a particular advantage for the promotion of a product or service. Defined by demographics such as age of customers, wealth, etc.."
I was tossing up between consumer and niche but chose niche instead

Re: Business Studies Section I: Multiple Choice

potentially found the answer. So therefore because jewlerry is provided by many producers, hence is not a niche market. IT WAS CONSUMER MARKET!! WOOOO!!!!!
"By definition, then, a business that focuses on a niche market is addressing a need for a product or service that is not being addressed by mainstream providers. You can think of a niche market as a narrowly defined group of potential customers"

Re: Business Studies Section I: Multiple Choice

Consumer market is when you're selling a good for consumers who are going to use the product themselves... IN GENERAL.

Niche is a small section of the market - hence, answer was C, niche.

Re: Business Studies Section I: Multiple Choice

Dude, the jewellery market consists of HEAPS of niche markets. Are you saying that the ferrari isn't niche because cars are provided by many car manufacturers? We don't know what the exact product was, but jewellery...like cars, computers, and phones, all consist of specific niche markets for their different products.

Re: Business Studies Section I: Multiple Choice

If it just said that it was selling jewellry, then yes it would be consumer. But they've added the age bracket, which has segmented the market. The only answer it could be is niche.

But that's just my opinion.
