Did you not realise that the source was of a herculaneum street / the house of the wooden trellis so you would obviously focus on herculaneum...

piece of cake.

They asked a similar question for the past 2 years on the whole archaeological techniques thing, so i assumed that they wouldn't ask it again.....they did, and i answered as best i could. Wish i knew a little more about it though.

I think it did say archaeologists &/or specialists - besides, my teacher said that it was possible to talk about almost everything & anyone involved in it's conservation/restoration/reconstruction, etc. I talked about them all, so it's bound to score most of the marks, so I hope!

I'm really glad the questions were very easy to remember in terms of learning the topic - they were all really basic stuff! Especially since I did an assessment task on entertainment & made much emphasis on the ampitheatre, & the streetscapes part was thoroughly done earlier in the topic. I'm glad, I'm very glad. :)
I was so worried about the topic that it would ask something that I would not know!

I figure - you are supposed to be able to get full marks with the lines

so I just wrote heaps small on the lines, and then went over them like added a few extra lines

Oh well... I got full marks in the trials doing that and 93 all up. I'll be OK.
well i have massive writing so writing on the lines would get me like half marks.

I found this section the most difficult.

Herculaneum streetscapes question was a bit of a bitch. Like the town is only 30% excavated, why be so specific?

The amphitheatre one was yuck as well, all I could think of was entertainment boosting public moral and because it drove the political system.

The last question was also ick, I was hopeing they'd pick a straight out bullet point (eg impact of tourism). Ah well.

Pomp & Herc: Herc streetscapes definitely my weakest answer on this section. The archaeology question: talked about Spinazzola (sic?) and Amadeo Mauiri's ideas of documentation and 'in loco' preservation and how they influenced 21st century archaeology. Pretty lucky actually, only studied Core archaeology the night before.

what the hell is a streetscape??? i mentioned everything i could possibly think of to do with villas and streets and the slope of herculaneum, just everything in teensy tiny writing.

it was funny, we had the same source in our trials but we had to talk about teh features of villas or something

for the last question i wrote about fiorelli, maiuri, lazer, jashemski, bisel and all the projects-insular menander, pompeiian forum, AAP etc.

i missed out SO much information tho =( and i called estelle lazer jane lazer by accident =(

on the whole i think i fucked it

The streetscapes question threw me at first, though it wasn't that hard to answer once I started writing.

For the 10 mark question, I focussed mainly on rconstruction being a reflection of the political ideas of the archaeologist - Fiorelli and romanticism/neo-classicism, Maiuri and romanita/fascism, and then modern methods and their focus on preservation and restoration only when they know exactly how it must have been.

Overall, the whole Pompeii section was pretty fair, I think. I suppose I would have gotten 23 or 24 for that section.
