Second very close to first (1 Viewer)

Hey everyone quick question,

So after my trials apparently my average is 0.20 percent off another person. I completely smash the trials than the other person by like 4-5% (i got a high band 6 when she got a low band 6), but the other person only got higher one or two marks in previous assessments so that's why were very close.

Anyway I asked my teacher what happens with ranking and she said that the board of studies determines it after Hsc. I know how the whole ranking system works and I was really confused when she said that if I beat her by like 2 marks in Hsc, then I obtain highest mark for Internal, but if it's the other way around then she'll get the highest mark. Like the average for first place is very close that they can't determine whose first or something. I don't know I'm so confused can anyone tell me if this is true or not?

Thanks I just want the highest mark when I put the effort in. My teacher just confused me heaps but if it's not a big deal then I won't worry about it then

Not necessarily. The school can decide to separate you before submitting marks. What they can't do is change the ranks so as the other person had a higher assessment mark the school may decide to send them in as first and you as second, one mark behind, or send you in as equal first.

If the former then the highest exam mark becomes the highest assessment mark (everyone keeps their own exam mark of course) and then the relative gaps come into play. With a one mark difference and the way that moderation works the two students would probably end up with equal assessment marks if it was to be the two of you.

If the latter then they average the highest two exam marks and make that the assessment mark.
