Second opinion on Notebook specs (1 Viewer)

Alright, not really a second opinion, but whatever. I'm @ uni atm, so something that can wordprocess/excel/etc, movies (during my breaks) and the occasional low-end game (during break, or during boring-ass, I-know-this-crap-already lectures )

Are these specs good for the price? I'm new to the whole notebook buying thing, so I don't really have much idea since I only really look at Desktop PCs.
Quoted Battery life is ~4 hours (which would be lower i guess, prob due to graphics card/ 7200rpm HDD, maybe slightly more since i'll be turning off some peripherals - Sound card/wireless/etcs).
Graphics I don't care a great deal about - this is for primarily uni 'study' reasons, and keeping value for the next few years. OS - winXP SP2 etc etc =]
Weight, ~3kg probably, really don't expect it to be higher, maybe lower.
I can also pull a few hundred off the end user price, not sure how much exactly, since I can buy this through some channels for supplier prices.

Look for something similar with a Core 2 Duo processor - the processor in that is ooooooold.

Depending on your level of usage, 80GB might be too small for your HD space requirements. But for what you need, it sounds good if you stick a C2D in it.

Do you run Windoze?

yeah for that price, you could get a decent laptop with a core 2 duo processor
have a look at www.laptop.com.au, www.cworld.com.au and ebay, so you can get an idea on the sort of price ranges you would expect for your preferred laptop specs

For 2 grande, no, it's not a great deal. Average deal, maybe. You could do alot better.

Thx for the replies. I'll try shopping around for a bit more, preferably C2D, in 14.1" range, but there's not much that'll leave me still going for a few years < $2k. (Nuh, dur.)

Check it out.

Cost: $1,999 acording to sony website. you will probably find it cheaper/be able to haggle, in stores.

A C2D T7200 for less than 2k
yeah that sounds reasonable enough
if you have your own software, then youre saving a fair bit as well, so yes if i was you, ill probably get it straight away

Tiny physically, but it still boasts WXGA+ resolution. If it was downgraded to XGA, then that would really suck (personally, atleast).

I actually love ultra-portable laptops, provided compromises aren't made on the screen resolution. I would love a 12" WXGA laptop. The reasons I never invest in one is because of the price and the usual sacrifices (like secondary storage capacity and screen resolution).

It's been awhile now since Dell withdrew their WUXGA+ option from their 15.4" Inspiron range. For me, that hurt below the belt.
