hey people, school certificate is coming up soon. Im having a little bit of a problem with science topic compounds nd reactions knowing the different formulas and word equations. Also things like precipitation, neutralization, combustion etc. Have no clue. Maths isnt a problem so i should know how to do these kind of thigns. Any simple explanation would be helpful.
thankyou

Hmm, lets try to do this without looking.

Acid + active metal = product (salt) + hydrogen

Acid + carbonate = product (salt) + carbon dioxide + water

Acid + alkali (hydroxide) = product (salt) + water (this is neutralisation)

corrosion: when metal corrodes, reacting with oxygen (common name, rust) ((acid + metal = metal oxide)
combustion: reaction releasing heat
ignition: the act of starting combustion
precipitation: reaction resulting in an insoluble product
synthesis: two or more reactants forming one product
decomposition: product decomposing into simpler units

.. I think that's about it. Someone tell me if i'm wrong, or missing something!

Rust is only for corrosion of iron. Rust = iron oxide

Not correcting you, cos you could have been mentioning that the everyday language of corrosion is 'rusting'...
I just thought I might contribute a little something to this thread :)
